Yeah, it is currently $2000 per child, but CRUCIALLY it currently phases in with income, so children in households with very low or no income don't receive it, despite needing money the most.

This type of cruelty is supposed to be an "incentive to work" but mostly just keeps the rate of deep child poverty in the US at a disgraceful level.

This bill not only boosts the benefit by 50% (80% for children under 6 - $3600) it also does not phase in with income so even the families with children who have little to no income will receive it.

Also (potentially) paying it out monthly both hugely increases the salience (Dems bringing home the bacon for everyday people) and the income smoothing (much easier to plan finances around a monthly check than a yearly windfall) effects, almost like a proper welfare state!
