FFXI crashing only when I log in on my main

So XI randomly started crashing on my pc when i try to log in on my main.
All of my mules log in just fine. It happens whether i open the game through windower or steam, and there are no issues logging in on my laptop. Any Ideas?

At one point, I had a fun problem where my game would crash, whenever a BRD enemy played a certain song. (esp. troublesome since we were doing that sahagin bcnm for armor upgrade pages at the time).
Solved when I scan/repaired the game several times through POL.

Odds are there's something about your main, gear/appearance/location/ w/e where a file is borked and it's causing a crash. esp. since it's only happening with a copy on just one device.

Its probably a plugin or something. Run vanilla, if it still happens, then just reinstall everything

    no windower
if it crashes without windower, the crash is windower related. From there, start eliminating plugins.

gonna give that a try, but why would a plugin only affect one character?

Could be something in autoexec tied to one character.
Could be something you have equipped thats making windower lose its shit.

Who knows, troubleshooting is all about removing variables to find the source of the problem.

If it crashes without windower, why would windower be the problem? I've eliminated all plugins and the problem remains. I've changed jobs and gear and zones and still crashes when logging in on the pc

Sorry, mis-worded that one. Meant to say if it doesnt crash without windower, then its windower related.

It could be one of your macro configs that got corrupt. I think theyre in ffxi/usr folder. At gym rn so i cant verify that file location.

    \PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER

One of those folders belongs to your character, and has all their settings and config. Which one? I dunno. Rename the USER folder to USER-bak or something, then log in with your main. I presume it will make a new folder for that character with all new settings. Hopefully you can log in without any problems on your main. If that is the case, congrats, your problem is fixed, it was a corrupt config file, and you can safely copy the other folders not matching that assigned to your main over.

You can try copying files from FINAL FANTASY XI\USER-bak\yourID to FINAL FANTASY XI\USER\yourID to save yourself the trouble of re-creating everything (can copy multiple till you crash, then start isolating from that batch of files), but I have no idea if the files share data and overwritting mixed versions will break something else.

I'm not really sure what else it could be, and at that point you might as well go scorched earth and reinstall FFXI.

Check %appdata% (type that into your windows search) and check for anything labelled square enix/ffxi, those files tend to stick around after removal. Bout the only idea I've got atm.

Failing that, uninstalling and looking for any leftover files is about all it could be, I think. Maybe check your temporary files but I doubt those are in use anyway. They'd be in %temp%

Thank you all so much for helping out. I couldn't figure out what the problem was and just installed the game on one of my HDDs instead. It's working fine so far.
