if they want to stick to reality here they need to just pull a Deadpool 2 here and all the trailers show this epic Lord Of The Rings style scenery and battles, but the movie just be them getting side-tracked sitting in a bar asking a Goblin named Rickettess his entire life story. The Ol' "The best laid plans of Dungeonmasters..."

This is so much better than it has any right to be. Making it a comedy was definitely the right choice

Even from the trailers I did not realize how high the production values for this were. Other than the halflings looking a little weird (the lighting around them seems wrong), everything looks so well done.

I saw a blurb refer to it as "two hours of glorious bullshit" which sounds like the spirit of most of my D&D sessions.

It's not gonna win any awards (actually that's maybe not true, the practical effects/costume design is spectacular, especially for the Aarakocra and Dragonborn), but it's just a good fun time of a movie.
