Got: Finding out Sunday when I visit my mom and her husband - Working today, get that 2.5x pay.

Gave: Built them a new computer. They don't do much beyond Youtube, Facebook, and shopping, but the system (some old Dell workspace system for $200~ or so, was junk) I got them 8~ years ago had run it's course. It's been limping along for the past 5 years or so but they didn't want to invest in something new, so got em something a bit more modern.

Yeah I can echo that. Not this year, but 5 years ago the 2nd most influential woman in my life (mom being the first), my grandma passed on 12/15. Christmas that year and the first one after were especially shit. My condolences to you. Sorry to sound like a cliché, but it'll get easier.

One of my best friends g/f lost her dad due to covid. I told him he's gotta step his game up this year and make it as fun and light as possible.
