What they're saying: "We're eating sh*t for breakfast, lunch and dinner right now," a McCarthy aide told Axios. The aide requested anonymity to speak frankly about his boss's situation.
Pressure is mounting on McCarthy financially, politically and publicly.
Corporate donors are freezing him out for challenging the Electoral College vote on Jan. 6.
The media is lampooning him for initially saying "the president bears responsibility" for the Capitol attack but amending that last week to say, “I don’t believe he provoked it, if you listen to what he said at the rally."
McCarthy also got hit for saying during an interview this weekend that "everyone" bears responsibility for the political temperature in the country.
Meanwhile, the pro-Trump wing of his conference is angry with him for not condemning Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) more forcefully after she voted to impeach Trump.
Y'all read for $20 gallons of milks and a cheeseburger costing your whole paycheck?!
prices are unlikely to rise significantly as there is little historical evidence an increase in the minimum wage affects widespread inflation. what deleterious economic impact there is will be on unemployment at the lowest level (the CBO estimates a $15 federal minimum would cost 1.3 million jobs). likely be offset by the increased purchasing power of minimum wage workers and the concomitant increase in aggregate demand (the same CBO analysis estimates a net 1.3 million Americans would be lifted out of poverty).
Inflation would have to return to levels not seen since the 70's.
I don't see businesses needing to sharply raise prices to meet the new wage requirements at this time though, not when anyone who could has already pulled back to the minimum amount of staff necessary to operate.
Biden could opt for the double whammy and tax the wage theft at its source: stock market shenanigans/dividends. Then I see everything going up to redonkulous levels to meet the need for the Rich to see ever bigger numbers signifying their wealth.
If this 80 year old Democrat dies, he'd be temporarily replaced by the Republican governor of Vermont, with a special election required within 6 months of the vacancy.
He's not that kind of Republican though, so it shouldn't matter much.
fitting start to 2021
he home now tho was a precautionary measure
still a sobering potential sequence of events
