Next Game to Play

So my queue of "next game up" is huge...looking for some suggestion of next to play. a few GotY candidates in here, some not great games that I still wanna play etc...

Halo: MCC (replaying for the story as i dont remember at all...about to be done with Halo 2)

I'd vote Alien Isolation and Control.

Both shorter games (sub 20 hours) and fun narrative trips

Outer Worlds is great. Solid game. Not terribly long, but worth the money. Parvati is adorable and must be protected at all costs.

I've been having a LOT of fun with No Man's Sky. It's got a lot going on, but the core gameplay loop seems to be exploration/resource gathering, and it's actually pretty satisfying. I could wish for better ship customization, but I'm sure they'll get to it eventually. They seem to have been churning out content updates pretty regularly.

Crusader Kings III is dope af but you'll lose your life to it, Gears Tactics is a shockingly solid X-com iteration. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a damn good game all around that almost didn't get the respect it deserved. starting Control myself now that gamepass dropped it.

Disco Elysium is the best game on that list because of the writing / story / world-building / humor BUT a definitive edition is dropping in March so might as well wait.

Don't play elite or nms unless you plan on not playing anything else for a long while if you end up liking them. Also don't play elite without a HOTAS. Thrustmaster tflight HOTAS x should be cheap unless they've all been scooped by ms flight sim players. If you feel like brining money, I recommend Virpil or VKB.

Death Stranding - worth playing once for the new type of gameplay and kojimas beautiful graphics. don't be in a rush tho, the universe they created is interesting, 75% of the characters are not. My save took me over 70hrs by game clock, but I think that game clock is fast. You can prob do it in 40-50hrs, especially if people give you time saving hints.

Deep Rock Galactic - I hear it's fun, but I have no opinion. Said person had it on their top 10 list tho

Detroit: Become Human - another one of those interesting games but nothing worth binging hard cause there's other games on this list you should play first. Multiple endings too, and it's not worth going thru them all unfortunately. Play once for "your" story and be done with it.

Disco Elysium - no opinion, but I hear it's amazing. This one made it on a few top 10 lists too.

Elite Dangerous - no opinion

Halo: MCC (replaying for the story as i dont remember at all...about to be done with Halo 2) - seems like a personal gratification thing, so play whever you want

Outer Wilds - Skip Outer WORLDS, Outer WILDS is an amazing experience that I highly recommend you spend a weekend playing. It's an exploration game not dissimilar to Myst but if I say anymore it'll be spoilerish. Squeeze this game in before the end of the year.

No Man's Sky - ah man...its not that it's a bad game it's just too big. it's basically space Minecraft and it never really "ends". Not a bad game but ain't no one got time for games like this imo lol

Jedi: Fallen Order (replay, was a lot of fun the 1st time around) - love this game too, and also doing a new playthrough. I only boot it up for 20-30min at a time while waiting for others for another game lol

Ghosts of Tsushima - haven't played, heard it's a top 5 game at the very least. If I had a PlayStation I'd be playing it now.

Alien: Isolation - heard it's eh. No opinion otherwise

The Long Dark - no opinion

Control - my game of the year the year it came out. The dlc is on point too. You can best the main story in a weekend, or a week if you're being slow. Veryyyy interesting universe they create, gameplay is amazing, visuals amazing. The only ding against it is it's not a 2020 game, for what that's worth lol.

Crusader Kings III - no opinion

Outer Worlds - space fallout. It's exactly that, for better or for worse. For me, it was for worse. But it is exactly what you think a space fallout is.

Wasteland 3 - no opinion

Gears: Tactics - no opinion but heard it's meh. I wouldn't play it over f2p games lol

Red Dead Redemption 2 - stopped halfway but it's good. Probably cause my bitch of a sister in law spoiled the ending for me gfdi...

Of everything listed I’ve only played Red Dead 2 but I really liked it. It will take you a while to finish single player, depending on what kind of experience you are after that could be a good or bad thing.

This game gets so much hate, and like if you bought it for $60 I can see why but at this point you got it for a discount and it's a hell of a technical achievement to play through at least once. The acting and mocap is downright phenomenal.

But I put it on the shelf along with Death Stranding. They do some technical things amazingly, but the sum of it's parts is not a great game. Worth playing once, maybe twice if you upgrade your system for shinier graphics, but then you can safely put it down to rest lol.

or just watch someone else play it- you get all the benefits of playing it, plus the commentary from the player of your choice. lots of youtubers did D:BH playthroughs. jacksepticeye's was pretty fun to watch, iirc.

i don't think death stranding translates as well to that tho
