Pending home sales have dropped off.

Pending home sales, a leading indicator of the health of the housing market, fell in September, reversing an increase a month earlier. The National Association of Realtors’ (NAR) Pending Home Sales Index, which tracks the number of homes that are under contract to be sold, dropped 2.3% in September from August — a surprising dip. Analysts expected a 0.5% increase in sales, according to Bloomberg consensus estimates.

“Contract transactions slowed a bit in September and are showing signs of a calmer home price trend, as the market is running comfortably ahead of pre-pandemic activity,” said Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist. “Some potential buyers have momentarily paused their home search with intentions to resume in 2022.”

Contract signings were down 8% from the same month a year earlier. And pending sales were down in all four regions in the U.S. from August and September 2020. The Northeast region recorded the largest dip in activity, posting a 3.2% from August.

The results show that sales activity may actually slow down into the fall since pending sales precede actual sales. In September, existing home sales rose 7% from a month earlier, the NAR reported last week.

“As rising home prices are paired with rising mortgage rates, which have already jumped above 3%, we could see mortgage payments that require larger shares of buyer paychecks, especially if incomes grow more slowly,” said Danielle Hale, chief economist for Realtor.com. “This could cause some buyers to opt out, dampening demand and ultimately causing sales activity and home price growth to slow."

I would own 20% more Amazon stock if I simply sold 1 day before every earning announcement and bought back 1 day after earnings announcement. Every time.

    October private payroll report.

Private payrolls grew by 571,000 in October compared to September, ADP said in its closely watched monthly report. Consensus economists were looking for a rise of 400,000 jobs, according to Bloomberg data. The month earlier, private payrolls had risen by a downwardly revised 523,000, from the 568,000 previously reported.

The job gains were again led by a wide margin by the service-providing sector, which saw net payrolls gains of 458,000 last month. This was in turn fueled by leisure and hospitality industries, which brought back 185,000 jobs. Professional and business services, and education and health services saw gains of 88,000 and 56,000, respectively.

The goods-producing sector also saw a pick-up in hiring across all major industries. Both manufacturing and construction employers brought back more than 50,000 workers each, building on gains from September.

I love milk so much, but it has so many calories in it, I can't keep it in the house. I keep a pint of fair life for my coffee in the mornings and nothing else.

NY Post etc etc, but the guy is known for poor labor practices.

In August, Gokce and his steakhouse chain were sued for allegedly stifling workers’ pay. Five grill men filed the suit in New York City and alleged Gokce refused them overtime pay. The men each claimed they made a weekly salary of $1,125 and worked over 70 hours per seven days.

The suit alleged that the grill men perform other menial tasks such as “take out garbage, wash dishes, clean stove hoods, clean toilets, prepare special meals for the managers and Gokce when he was present and run errands and purchase products when there were shortages at the Restaurants.”

Salt Bae was sued previously in April when he was hit with a $5 million copyright infringement lawsuit by Brooklyn artist William Hicks, who claimed the chef stole his artwork and used it without permission.
