jason kelce restructured his contract, 9mil this year guaranteed, can go up to 12mil with incentives

Signs pointing to fitzmagick retiring.

Signs also pointing to Jimmy G back in NE.
It way I can see that happening is somehow the Niners get Watson. We'd have to dump a crap ton of trade picks to get a QB that might maybe an upgrade on the draft due to where we are, and I'd rather give those picks for a sure thing, otherwise just stick with Jimmy G.

ryan, ar12, and dak if he gets tagged will all hit the cap this year 5m more than the next highest qb
the yearly qb cap list is always fascinating to me 'cause it's so much different than who we're told the highest paid qbs are... as a guy that doesn't own an nfl team i've come to the conclusion yearly base salary is a completely useless way at looking at qb contracts. who cares if mahomes is averaging 45m base salary a year when he only hits the cap at 25m in 2021 and 31m in 2022. that shits cheap. then the other guys who we're told are supposedly on cheaper deals are hitting the cap like 15m more. its all fucked up
Yeah NFL cap math is bizarre.
Every other sport is generally just a flat number maybe with some incentives, and the NFL is just a random clusterfuck of random numbers and not actually guaranteed guarantees that get renegotiated every single season as teams try to adjust the cap.
yeah, like use tom brady as an example. we're all told bardy takes a discount every year but last year he was tied for the 5th highest qb cap hit in the league... the 5th highest cap hit ain't no discount. the discount was to the bucs owners for having a lower actual salary, not to the bucs team for having a high cap hit. in terms of what the fans care about he was expensive
It's the way teams are spreading shit out. Convert part of this year's salary into a signing bonus and add a year and keep doing that and all of a sudden at the end you got a QB making twenty a year, but the cap hit is 35-45 million.
It's basically a poison pill quarterbacks abuse because they know the team is going to have to extend them or get fucked. It's built in job security until they are ready to rebuild.
