Louisiana's 7 day average of new cases is higher now than it has ever been.

The concert industry is scared of being shut back down, so most tours are requiring full vaccinations and masks for staff and crew, but they can't really do much within reason about attendees, so it's just massive super spreader events being set up and run by people working and trying to communicate with masks on in 90+ degree heat. It's a fucking mess already, less than a month after things got moving again.

I took a train home Sunday afternoon from my brother's place and the train was packed with highschoolers in jerseys and concert "cladding" but no masks. They treated the 8 car train like a personal club, walking between cars to party with other people. Absolute nightmare, glad I had 2 masks on.

That said, the city has been hosting fully occupied baseball and other sporting events for a while. I'm guessing we will see a major vector spread out from the city as these out-of-towners take it home with them instead.

Do we know how effective getting COVID is at providing immunity? Reinfections are rare but not unheard of, so I guess it is also high 90s maybe?

As we go towards herd immunity, we are going to have to start factoring in people who have only gotten COVID in our herd statistics instead of just leaning on the vaccination rate. There are likely to be a lot of them and maybe that paints a less dire picture.

Walmart, Target, Lowes, Kohl’s, Publix, Sam’s Club, Costco are back to requiring employees to wear masks regardless of vaccination status. No rules yet for customers, but I imagine it isn’t far behind.

I had a psych consult on COVID a bit ago. He was vaccinated and asymptomatic. Was told they had 2 vaccinated people hospitalized, both incidental findings that are asymptomatic and there for other reasons (including my 72hr hold). They had one COVID bed left after having 0 COVID patients about a month ago.

Conversely, some restaurants in LA county have been doing the opposite as this place and requiring vaccination because they see it as a way to stay open for dine-in service.

my dad who's in LA said one local business started requiring vaccinations to dine-in and they are doing really really well because of it

Yeah think imma take the plunge and get a booster shot. Gonna take archis call and make it moderna tho, just to round it out. I would do AZ but I can't find it locally, neither can I find JnJ but I'd skip that one over moderna anyways.

Florida hitting a new case record, me knowing my health when I get hit with something serious, and our hospitals sporadically hitting near capacity has me kinda , so I guess I'll be the guinea pig for the family and see how I react to crossing the streams and getting a booster 4 months after our original doses.
