    Hd antenna help

So we cut the cord months ago, but I want a solution so the wife can watch the redskins on tv locally.

I bought a 25$ HD antenna with 55 mile radius but failed to get any channels.

Anyone done this before? What do I need to do here to get some free fox?

Willing to share your zip code? Getting absolutely no channels seems a little odd. You did a full scan after it was hooked up?

https://www.rabbitears.info/ and https://www.antennaweb.org/ can help you make sure you are aiming the antenna in the best direction for your local stations. You might need to get it closer to an outside wall (in that direction) or higher up. Can't really just plop it behind the TV or anything, and you have to rescan every time you move it.

If you have access to an attic or crawlspace higher up, one like this will do loads better than the flat ones: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RCA-Atti...705E/303087505

Finally, assuming you are actually in the DC television market area, https://www.locast.org/ could be a very good option for you as well.

    20136.

I got 4 channels on my phone using the RCAAntenna App, none on the TV, even through the range on the antenna was 55 miles and on the app it said they were 30 miles away.

edit: 2 full scans - 1 with the antenna on the cabinet, 1 with it in the window.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

We used to use an HD antenna, but this was maybe ten years ago and I don’t know if this still applies BUT:

Despite the radius, you still can have interference in the home. Whenever we moved we had to spend a really long time with someone holding it and moving it around the wall until we found the perfect spot to nail it to. If you haven’t done that try it and try various rooms in your home to see what/where it works best.

It looks like you might be in a bit of a tricky area. 30 miles isn't particularly far, but the map shows lots of ridges of low field strength there (I'm guessing due to the natural geography of the area).

Best bet is still to get the antenna to an outside wall facing northeast and as high as you can, even if just to prove it can work. In addition to locast, you could also consider something like an HDHomeRun... that's a network tuner. You could have the antenna and the HDHomeRun somewhere high up (attic, second floor, whatever) but then you do need an ethernet connection back to the router. At that point you can watch the local channels on any app/device at your place (smart TV app, phone, etc.). Those start at around $100, or more for more tuners/dvr features.

Edit: Although locast has a free offering, I think the donation is only $5/month. I really wish they offered service where I am.
