That being said, I wonder how many players have sorta secret deals going with their teams behind the scenes? Like right now TSN has been hyping a potential Landeskog/Avs split, but what if that's all just sensationalized for headlines when he's really been like "hey Mr sakic, I'll sign on July 22nd, right after Seattle picks their team, but saves you a potential player to protect. If they pick me anyway, I'll just sign back here on the 28th then. Good talk, see ya in training camp."

It makes zero sense for any team to be signing any of their UFAs before the expansion draft. No other team can sign them right now and by doing so you're just forcing yourself to make a choice you wouldn't have to otherwise.
