A Florida judge ruled Friday that Gov. Ron DeSantis’s administration overstepped its authority in restricting school districts from enacting mask mandates after parents sued officials amid a surge in coronavirus infections.


Judge John C. Cooper of Florida’s 2nd Circuit sided with parents from six Florida counties who challenged DeSantis (R) and state education officials in court this week, arguing that the governor’s order infringes on classroom safety guaranteed by the state’s constitution.


In a milestone decision in the heated debate about mask mandates in Florida, Cooper declared that the state cannot require districts to offer voluntary mandates over “the preservation of general welfare,” comparing the masking issue to the difference between the right to drink alcohol and the criminality of drunken driving.


“We don’t have a right to go into a crowded theater and yell fire because we decided it’s our right to do that,” he said.

In a statement, Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center says “While all critical equipment is powered by the backup generators, the HVAC systems and air conditioning chillers have been impacted. Since there is not a definitive timeline for the restoration of power, all 22 patients will be transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for their safety and comfort.

Power went out at outlying hospital...got 90 degrees in the patients rooms. We, already poorly staffed, took 14 covid patients from this hospital on night shift. All within about 2 hours. It was a god damned nightmare.

Tested negative a couple of weeks ago. Friend/co-worker caught it from his dad. Still have a nagging cough but nothing terrible or any other symptoms. Another good friend caught it from his kid who got it on his first week back at school. The lady who collects the trash from our dept at work also caught it. Real chatterbox but we're always masked up. So tired of these masks but I owe my health to them. First friend I mentioned got vaxx'd on the same days I did but he's been miserable. Can't imagine what I would've gone thru with my health.

My doc wants me on meds that further suppress my immune system, but I'm pretty iffy with this shit running rampant around me.
