Pretty much this. His indictment is imminent and he's desperate, resorting to more mob violence. Apparently the Georgia grand jury can't convene until May to decide whether or not to indict him so that one will be a few months.

Pence's people have been VERY cooperative with the J6C seeming like they have his blessing although Pence himself appears hesitant to come straight forward to the committee. Turns out Trump made a huge donation to Mark Meadows employer shortly after the Committee's creation. And some more articles about Donald's fascist threats last weekend.

I know when I engage in legitimate political discourse I smear my shit on the walls of the capitol and beat up police officers.
Who's ready for Civil War II?

What if Russia's plan to keep us out of WW3 was to start CW2?
You would think that they'd have learned to keep it in their pants after how badly CW1 went for them.
You joke but Putin's fascism with Trump's fascism and the white Christian minoritarian ruling powers are that same overlapping phenomenon.
A lot of little things have been happening this last week but nothing that enthralling to post about. Today in the news is that Donald broke some more laws by not only shredding, but stealing dozens of National Archives documents away with him to Florida. Looks like (one of) Bannon's lawyers may be under investigation himself, supposedly he advised Bannon to ignore the subpoena which is... a crime and there is no attorney-client privilege when committing a crime is involved. Laslty ICYMI last weekend Pence spoke at a Federalist event and made his strongest yet defense of his actions on Jan 6. Kind of looks like Pence is looking toward 2024 and starting to put a wider berth between him and the loser.

Can someone please ELI5 the 4D chess McConnell is playing here?

McConnell breaks with RNC: Jan. 6 'violent insurrection'
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) criticized the Republican National Committee (RNC) for its censure of Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and broke with their language on the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, calling it a “violent insurrection.”
“It was a violent insurrection with the purpose of trying to prevent a peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election. ... That’s what it was,” McConnell said.
He is untouchable and has already solidified his power in the SC, and just doesn't give a fuck anymore.
This is the top comment on reddit, and it makes a lot of sense
You misunderstand McConnell’s grand plan. He’s using the courts he tricked Trump into assembling to fuck him at every turn (election results, his tax returns, now J6) while supporting traditional conservative principles (minor wins for religious rights, campaign finance, likely wins for guns and abortion in Corlett and Dobbs coming out this summer). And while the courts destroy him piece by piece, the J6 committee led by two McConnell Republicans exposes the real dirt behind him and leaves him with his pants down for the Federalist Society graduate DOJ to come and collect. That’s why he didn’t convict at the impeachment trial but warned that Trump was responsible for everything and justice would come. He knew what he was doing, just didn’t want his caucus to get their hands dirty so as to lose support from the base.
As much as we shit on McConnel, he is very brilliant, and obviously very vindictive as well politically. Short version is Trump thinks he was controlling the strings of the GOP. McConnel used and played him like a fiddle, and now that he's out, he knows Trump politics could lead to long term damage to the republican party, and he has the clout, respect, and experience to talk back. You'll notice even Graham has been a bit more harsh on the Trump rhetoric lately.
They got exactly what they needed from Trump, a 6-3 majority in the SC, a ton of republican leaning judges all over the country, and now Trump is useless to them.
Trump and McConnell notoriously don't like one another. I think he knows that Trump is fucked, he went way too far way too fast and too sloppily. McConnell knows Trump's Senate picks suck and are a detriment to him regaining the majority on top of everything else. He's wisely pushing away from him that should have taken place right after he lost the election. The rift between the MAGA fascists and the long-game Republican institutionalists is going to keep flaring up more intensely as the investigations swirl.
Not that much Jan 6 news but some interesting related bits.
Committee meeting with some White House staff today, and Kevin McCarthy makes a stupid gaffe while answering a reporter's questions about the "legit discourse".
And in Jan 6 adjacent news the North Carolina board of electors states that it does in fact have the authority to decide whether Madison Cawthorn should be prevented from appearing on ballots under the 14th amendment.

The J6C subpoenas some more people surrounding the fraudulent electors scheme, and is stating Guiliani is now cooperating with the investigation.
