Pokémon Scarlet - Pokémon Violet (November 18, 2022) [NSW]

Some new info today:
- New dragon/normal pokemon (similar vehicle motif as the legendaries) with a move that creates a substitute and swaps out with another pokemon.
- Item that copies an opponent's stat increases.
- Item that makes multi-hit moves more likely to hit multiple times.
- Item that prevents additional effects of moves (not in trailer).
- New move that changes type based on terastalling (eliminates some of my criticisms about STAB moves) and use is either physical or special based on whichever is stronger (like shell side arm).

Also, Sw/Sh have officially entered the "anything goes" phase for ranked with no restrictions on number of legendaries and allowing mythicals for the last few months until Gen 9.

I think each of these distributions run for two weeks, so you should be able to grab it it until next week. I'd say good is a relative term. In a non-restricted format, a lot more things can be viable and you could certainly build around a Dragonite. That said, unless it's from someone's team who won something, most of the stuff they give away is a novelty -- this one doesn't have its HA or anything especially noteworthy.

Yeah, it's definitely an acquired taste, not helped by the fact it took them over twenty years to put in a ranked ladder with rules and actually make the PvP side of the game accessible to most players.

That's a big reason why Sw/Sh are one of my favorite entries in the franchise. Pokemon went from a game that I'd play for 20-80 hours and then put away until the next generation, and became a game that I maxed out the playtime (fun fact, it maxes out at 999:59). Lots of people complain that Pokemon hasn't really changed in 25 years, but for me, the PvP changes made Gen 8 a completely different game.

Ceruledge intrigues me a bit from a competitive standpoint, but yeah, I feel pretty similar. Apart from seeing the "villain" team and (presumably) the region's champion, we already knew there were going to be three storylines, so there wasn't a lot in that trailer.. ..although the Sudowoodo part was pretty great.

That said, rewatching it, I noticed they said Mela is the leader of Team Star's Fire crew, which implies other crews.

I noticed that too, makes me think we will have a second set of "Gym Leaders" in Team Star leaders.

Serebii is saying they're doing in-store distributions in the UK (GAME), France (Micromania), and the Netherlands/Belgium (GameMania) for Genesect, Volcanion and Marshadow starting tomorrow for Sw/Sh.

Giving out all three at once makes me think it's tied to mythicals being usable in series 13, so I'm hoping they do the same thing in the US. Also wish they'd make Magearna more easily accessible, cause it is stupid broken..

And they've upped the stores in Europe offering the three mythicals to include GAME in Spain and Gamestop in Italy, Ireland, and Germany. It starts today, so might not be a good sign for it occurring here as well.

Welp, my hopes feel even more dashed - they've announced a distribution of shiny Eternatus through gamestop in the US and in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. It runs from September 16th through November 17th in Asia, and starts on September 18th in the US (no end date yet).

At least for gamestop, from what I've seen, you just need to go in and request a code.

Edit: Confirmed for the US, Canada (Gamestop), and Australia and New Zealand (EB Games). Will run from Sept 18 to Oct 1.
