hear me out:
The Seattle Suns
Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the country and the team is in the city's bones it would be CRIMINAL
but sayonara bank boy Joe Johnson and Goran Dragic have their revenge at last
(12th largest metro, or 13th if you count Toronto)
I'm pretty sure the rumor mill has them announcing the new teams in Seattle and Vegas during the upcoming preseason games there.
The rest of the owners make more money from new teams as opposed to moving existing ones.

Seattle Suns got a nice ring to it, ngl. It also follows the precedent set by Utah and LA for team names that make 0 sense

For bezos to buy the suns and not the new Seattle franchise would be criminally stupid.
He could gain an enormous amount of goodwill in that city by returning a NBA team there.
But do you want to buy the Ayton/Booker/CP3 team or some scrub-ass expansion franchise with no history?
If/when the Sonics come back, they get their history/records/etc in Seattle back from the Thunder, it was part of the deal when the team moved.
We'd see an expansion draft similar to what we've seen in the NHL, and Vegas was able to instantly become a contender.

If they're looking at suspending him before it's even public knowledge what he did I'd imagine it's not great
Yeaaaaah, Vegas was a 1 off. Teams learned (the hard way) that trading draft picks and player assets to an expansion team so they won't take specific players just isn't the way to go.
Seattle's NHL team got NONE of that treatment when they joined the league. Their expansion team is a dumpster fire and that's probably a lot more of what you could expect, save for a bunch of FA signings going to a Seattle NBA team, which is a hell of a lot more likely in the NBA then the NHL given just how much looser free agency tends to be in basketball with star players going from team to team
If the NBA can time out the Seattle team starting play with KD's free agency, he'd likely go there. He'll likely be past his prime by then but he clearly still loved Seattle and knows going back to the Sonics would do a lot for his long term reputation
and didn't the Knights have most of their postseason success because Fleury was secretly still one of the best goalies in the league he just couldn't get fulltime run in Pittsburgh because of Matt Murray's ascendance
no real chance of replicating that in basketball, you aren't getting an elite game-changing talent at the most important position as an expansion team. last expansion team maxed out grabbing Gerald Wallace as their #1 option, and i loved prime Gerald Wallace, but, Gerald Wallace.
