    Power supply questoin

    Greetings,

So years ago my wife's PC stopped working and i thought it was the PSU. I got a new one and it turns out it wasn't the PSU but the Mobo. Anyway, I have had this spare PSU for years now and I want to sell it but when i plug it in and turn it on the fan doesn't move. Is this because the other connections aren't hooked up to anything and hence not drawing power? I have no way to test it now that I use a laptop.

I believe most current PSU's the fan only runs once it starts outputting power. Having it plugged in isn't enough.

I would just list it as is, unable to test but worked the last time you used it. Won't get as much, but at least it will get it out of your hair.

If you happen to have access to a multimeter there's tons of guides on the internet how to test your PSU using a paper clip and a multimeter.

For the fan problem I think every Corsair PSU I tested won't have the fan spinning unless you draw a good amount of power from them and/or wait a few minutes.

As melena said the fans will only spin up on a PSU when it is under enough load. Not unusual for it to not be spinning. If you have it plugged into a working pc, run a stress test or benchmark or something and you should see the fan spin up after a few minutes.
