Should've been Spicy.
Jesus Christ this is horrible news.
I've been super busy lately, I've made maybe 2 posts in the last 30+ days.
He's the reason for my 2 newest PCs.
He will be sorely missed.
RIP buddy. I used so much of his testing in my day to day for years. We truly lost a homie.
RIP Proth. I can still hear him in the discord gacha channel going...
WHY ARN'T YOU SPENDING YOUR MONEY IN EPIC7, STOP HOARDING IT ALL!
RIP to an OG. I remember him talking about his medical issues in discord a couple years back and wondering how he was still alive. His advice in PC building and gacha antics will be missed.
Huge bummer; super sad news. We frequently crossed paths in Diablo discussion threads here.
really bad news,
It<s good to see how much impact some people can have even if its online only
I just found this. The Nintendo Switch thread got bumped and Proth was the last post on there, hadn't seen a post in awhile from him then noticed this on the homepage. Really sad. I can't say I have any stories with him, I think we once had a disagreement about Geo or Blu or something on FFXIAH, but he was always present and helpful everywhere I saw him.
I was wondering what happened. I always appreciated his posts and am sad to see him no longer here.
Damn.
Damn... wasn't super close to Proth but he was hands down one of the most helpful and insightful individual's on here and discord
I've held off saying any more about Proth since making the OP, but he had a significant impact on me. Both as a player seeking or attempting to document his wisdom and as a person. Proth was the reason I started making guides, and I directly followed and evolved from his template. Additionally I would consult with him every time I wanted to verify that the information or opinion I was providing was absolutely correct, or just for more information on something completely random that I didn't even need to include. The BLU guide only contained such good information in part because of him.
Proth was someone who would send me funny messages randomly, and for whatever reason told me that I was a some good person because otherwise he doubted my wife would have even chosen to marry me. His odd but comical and straightforward reassurances in myself as an individual for absolutely no reason other than he wanted to. All while laying there in a hospital bed or at home just chilling on a weekend. Has certainly stuck with me and he was certainly a remarkable person, as far as my cynicism is concerned.
Keep in mind that I haven't said this about any other player and I typically don't hold people to this sort of lasting regard.
This was Proth's last DM to me not long before he died, and I think it would have rather perfectly fit into his sense of humor in case he just suddenly just dropped dead. Which may sound odd, but I think fits into that endearing quality to himself of an unabashed expression, often in sarcasm or irony.
This being a running joke about how I was banned from LSB. With the excuse that a GitHub avatar of a plush chocobo in a yarn noose violates the code of conduct. Which Proth found to be as pathetically stupid an excuse as it sounds. It is so dumb of a message too that I love it, and he knew I would.
I typically don't dwell on these things if I can help it, but Proth was an awesome guy, and not because I appreciated his sense of humor or his dedication to documenting mechanics no one else did or even his intelligence. He was just that kind of guy you want to be friends with, who wasn't afraid of expressing his dissatisfaction with someone or something, and just wanted to enjoy a laugh. I miss him, and I appreciate what he contributed to this small space, both as a player and as just a person existing in it. He was my friend, and someone I respected, both being rare.
When I logged in to poke my head to see how XI is doing these days this is one of the last things I ever expected to see. Never played XI with him or spoke privately but I remember bullshitting in the Discord channels over whatever misc trash Gacha of the month was currently the big go to. Rest in peace sad to see it.
RIP Prothescar! A big part of the FFXI world. You will be missed.
I completely missed this because I don't frequent the FFXI forum. Wasn't super close but would see him around BG all the time. I have a couple Displates because he sent me discount codes so I'll always think of him when I see those.
RIP
