Previous FF's, FF12, and some other OT stuff

I guess it's off topic, but you make that call. I was playing FF6 the other day, then some 8, then switched to Fable and Morrowind, and it made me realize something.

Single players started to lose their appeal after being in a social RPG for a year or so. The lack of socialism is one thing, but it also made me realize just how perfect FFXI's battle system, item/armor, etc is. It really makes me dissapointed or whatever in the other games.

I'm rambling, sorry, my point is this. I know that FF12 is supposed to have more of a similar battle engine and monster-on-the-screen (no random fights) type of deal, like FFXI, but...until then other games just aren't any fun right now. FFXI spoils you, I think

Does anyone else play any other single player RPG's anymore? If so, which and why? I used to really love FF6, 5, Fable, Morrowind, etc. - but after being so used to FFXI's system and design, I just find myself comparring them to FFXI and being dissapointed. Graphics aren't important, since FF6 is an excellent game and it's visuals never really mattered for that reason. It's just mainly the battle system that I really miss in the other games I think.

Nope, I can still play single player RPG's, sometimes I wish FFXI was more like FFVII in the aspect of running around killing things instead of camping in 1 spot slaying the same 1-2 mobs over and over again.
I think FFXI is becoming more like that though, Dynamis is a good example of how it was during those FF games, you run around killing parties of Orcs and Yagudo's etc and you get a good moving feeling. This is why I wanted to do Dynamis so badly, and why I absolutely loved it.

I played SO3 (Star Ocean 3) while playing FFXI and I loved how fast paced and refreshin the battles were, sometimes change is good and makes you appreciate a good battle system.
The only thing FFXI needs to improve in my opinion is the way you get EXP, simply camping in one spot for 3 hours is SOOOOOOOO boring, I wanna move around a bit, I wanna kill parties of monsters and that stuff, make EXP grinding a little more memorable and enjoyable.

    Peace =P

(Give me a sec to go down memory lane ^^) I remember in FF7 when I learned what I thought was the most uber way to level. I camped outside of that Canyon place with the big telescope where RedXIII was born. They sold Tents (restored full MP/HP when at a save point or world map) in the item shop. You could run around and fight stuff, which went down pretty easily if I recall, and then use the gil you had from the fights to stock up on more and more tents to keep going and going. :D

I bought Doom3 since I havent seen it yet, and it's graphics alone make me want to try it (that and it was only 30 bucks ). I'll install later, but I still want to find a good single player RPG ^^.

Xenogears.... best single player RPG of all time... except for the fact that 80% of Disc 2 is all cutscene. Xenogears started it all... without Xenogears, there would be no Xenosaga... so show homage to the one that brought about your favorite RPG since FFXI!!!

a good game is a good game. Im really looking forward to Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner(phew...). The upside of playing single player games is that it revolves around your schedule, not trying to work things around the most recent nidhogg pop.

I agree Xenogears was amazing and if you like that you like xenosaga,
unfortunately the game is alot of talking even for an RPG you spend about 1/4 of your time actually fighting anything lol, good game none the less

As bad as it is, I just recently played FF10 for the first time. I had played all of the FF's to date except that one, because X-2 turned me off to it so much (and anyone who played X-2 knows why). but it really wasn't bad.
The only down side to 10 is playing for 2 seconds in between endless cut scenes, but oh well - Lulu was beyond hot.

FFXIs battle engine may be nice now, but it took 2 years in the making. Ive been playing FFXI since the Japanese BETA version and the battle engine really was nothing special. Actually really sucked back then. And it sucked for a while. only the Patches and the updates since the dawn of the NA version have the battle system really been adjusted and tweaked. It great now, but it took very long to do so. You cant compare it to other RPG because they cant be updated (outside of online mmorpgs) like FFXI can in patches.

The only reason i would go back and play Xenosaga EP1 is to unlock the swimsuit for the characters in Ep2 <lol> other then that i probably watch the DVD that comes w. Ep2 which is most of the FMV or watch Xenosaga the animation.

I registered just so that I can reply to this post =P Frankly, cuz I was shocked that I wasn't the only one facing such problem. FFXI completely changed my "appetite" (?) of games. I quit FFXI due to college stuff and tried playing my old RPGs again. Didn't work out well =P

However, I do recommend Xenogears like above posters. If you look at the year that Xenogears was made, the game is way ahead of its time. However, the second disc is quite weird/strange/confusing because they had to cut down on the fund because it was taking them too long to finish making the game. Xenogears is also great. These games are known for long CS's but I think the storyline is great. It feels as if you are watching a long movie while actually controlling the actors/actresses from time to time.
