What equipment should I buy?

Look at the AH, look at other Lv40 MNKs, determine what fits your budget. MNK, as well as all DDs, need STR ATT and speed. Read Allakaspams forums for MNK info. Lv40 doesnt have many options yet, since its so low Lv. But there are some 'usual' options such as Jujuitsu and Fuma. But again, it depends on your needs and your budget.

I just started leveling my MNK last week and i am 42.
Im wearing:

Mithral Claws+1
Jujitsu Gi
2x Beetle Earrings+1
Ochiodos Kote
Spike Necklace
2x Sniper Rings
Nomads Mantle
Brown Belt
Republic Subligar
Fuma Kyahan

I believe this is some of the best equipment i can be wearing but may be best to ask a high level MNK

That's better then what I had, but it seems like you didn't need help at all. Only thing i'd suggest is (depending on food) macro in some STR gear in for Focus and Accuracy gear in for Berserk.

Those Giant brcs are very nice to have, and i'[ve gone from 40-67 with them considering the price of kote you should pick some up at around level 60.
