most hi-speed internet connections to your house is carried over copper wires. fiber optic cables are able to carry signals at much higher speeds that copper. but Fiber Optics is also extremely expensive and most places don't have them.

most ISPs use Fiber to carry information between each other but that speed never translates to the end user because of the physical limitations of copper.

think of it as traffic, there are lots of highways but the ones that goes to your house is usually a one/two way street. when you're trying to get 500 cars to your house, they can come fast on the highway but once they all get off and onto the streets they slow down.

FTTH puts the highway directly into your house.

Japan is a small place and they are having Fiber cables put up everywhere. it's suppose to cost around $90/month.

Ya just come out by comcast I think, its only avaliable in tampa and chicago i think. Im not 100% sure but JP will still beat you. Also the fact that phiber optic is available to almost every house in japan =/

Fiber is availiable in Dallas to Test customers atm. SBC and it's affiliates are in the process of bringing this out along with Television *through* fiber as well.

Actually Verizon is offering that deal. I think that deal is only good if you are an existing customer with them either thru Wireless or Land line service.

I have no idea where you're living but fiber optics sure as hell isnt 15mb down lol. I think most ISP's are connected to a fiber connection because you don't need a repeater every so often unlike other methods of connectivity but you're sure as hell not gonna get fiber for 50 bux a month from an ISP. Your bottle neck is gonna be the coaxial cable which caps at around 20mb.

They cap you at 15mb which sucks but it's faster then anything out there. (At 50 bux)

I heard of fios and it's good. I wish it was available in my area.
