I'm making a list of Gil Sellers and Gil Buyers (People I know for a fact that told me or others they buy gil, yes that includes people who are or were my friends). Guess which has more people in it's roster.

The entire point of this thread has been buried under all the name-calling and the apologetic tone for taking gilsellers to dynamis.

I don't think anyone can put forth a good argument as to why these people would stop selling gil. If you can, good for you, but "they said they stopped" doesn't prove anything.

I think the real point that upsets people about gilsellers is not that they sell gil. I could care less if Joe Blow sells some of the gil that he has to someone else who wants to buy it. It crosses the line once he starts camping something 24 hours a day, trying to prevent anyone else from having a reasonable chance to get it himself. People make the argument that without gilsellers to farm amemet skins, the price would get so high that everyone would be even worse off. Yet they overlook the fact that when the gilsellers were gone, Amemet skins were much easier to hunt on your own. It restores the ability to make money through the game itself. If stroper chymes weren't camped 24 hours a day by the *same* people, do you think it would really be such an issue with so many people? I don't. I'd just wait until the camp was clear.

Taking gilsellers to dynamis is akin to doing missions with them. They may not receive any immediate benefit, but it benefits them in the long run. Skyboy used to watch other LSes in sky killing pop item NMs so they could learn how to do it. Sky was one of the few areas in the game that was untouched by gilsellers. Gilsellers got there because people helped them get there. On some servers the situation is even worse than it is here. Some AF2 means they will be able to kill things better than before, and other pieces would allow them to not need gear that would have to be bought with gil.

Nobody is arguing that taking gilsellers to dynamis has an immediate detriment to the game, but it does have reprecussions. The person who made the analogy with murderers was correct in one sense. If a person murders another person, they are forever a murderer. They can repent, they can be remorseful, and they can even be forgiven, but they will forever be a murderer. A gilseller who farms 20 hours a day can claim to have changed, and maybe they have, but it doesn't change the fact that they contributed greatly to detracting from the game for many people. They will always have the stigma of being a gilseller, and associating with someone who has hurt the game so much is in a grey area that is similar to associating with people of ill repute in real life. People don't like gilsellers because it is indisputable that they have had a massively negative impact on the game. When they see people helping them, even if it doesn't directly further the negative impact, it's still viewed as helping people who have hurt the game very much.

Nobody disputes the fact that people who buy gil are as much a part of the equation as people who sell the gil, but the people who buy the gil typically aren't the ones who are camping items 20 hours a day, hindering legitimate people from making money through the game, hence why people are more upset about gilsellers than gilbuyers. Also keep in mind that even though there may be more gilbuyers than gilsellers, all that means is that gilsellers hold much more power than gilbuyers, because a typical gilseller may be selling 10 million gil a week, while a typical gilbuyer might only buy 1-2 million gil a week (I made up the exact numbers, but that is generally what it would look like).

If the people who are defending helping gilsellers don't realize that they are just going to hurt the game in the long run, then it can't be helped, and I would encourage people to not associate with those who help gilsellers, but it's childish to see the name-calling and the use of this thread by people who don't actually care about the situation and are just using it to attack others. This is a serious situation, because it's going to affect how much you can even enjoy the game in the future. If you can't hunt in sky because there are 3 gilsellers LSes there and they're killing everything already, you suddenly are being pushed out of being able to participate in one of the last gilseller-free areas of the game.

I'd also recommend that the mods delete any future posts in this thread that don't have a point or that resort to name-calling or personal attacks, because it's taking away from the point of having this thread in the first place.

ok so what i have heard is this guys are in china.. and 1 was liek angelgirl and other had soem weird ass name./ and i was logging and these douche bags kept hitting my points and i was like WTF so i asked my LS what to do (i was in newhope @ the time) they said just talk to them? so i did .. they stopped logging on my points and i asked them where they were from. they said they were from zhengzou, which is in the eastern region of china. And actually i went to zhengzou 2.5 years ago with my dad (he was on business trip) and people were realllly poor there. i mean POOR beyond what us americans can imagine. This is an assumtion but i doubt if they were that 0.1% of rich chinese dudes .. they would play ffxi 8 hours a day and sell gil. And this understandable market, it's a fun job and probably makes alot of money considering the buyers spend Euro and USD which is worth alot more than chinese currency.

It's understandable when people win trophies in real life for either athletic or intellectual accomplishments. They are proud to display them either at their own house on a pedestal or have it shown at work place and/or school, but when people show off their accomplishments in virtual reality about something they can't take home with them put on their table or brag about 20 years from now, there's nothing athletic or intellectual about it. I guess it helps some pathetic losers sleep at night knowing they've intimidated Kirin with their make belief character or synthesized a Rabbit Mantle+1.

I think Quicklet summerized the topic pretty well. I remember very well when gilselling was an unknown concept to me (FFXI being my first MMORPG), and I just started camping random NMs every once in a while. Then these people who I later learned to be infact gilsellers using dirty tactics on the Kote NM in Oztroja like calling help on mobs they dragged in front of my face got frustrated then and I said, 'man, screw it'.

The thing I don't understand sometimes is why people, some on my linkshell even, can be nice to gilsellers. It's a common 'wolf in sheep's clothing' concept to me. They may help you, raise you in Kuftal or something, but it doesn't hide the fact who they are. They're gilsellers. They ruin the economy (kote has quadrupled to 2million now I believe), and most of all they ruin the game for myself and many others. They will push you out, they will harass you, they will MPK you just so outsiders don't interupt in their monopoly. And what Quicklet and the other poster used the murderer analogy puts it pretty well imo. One could stop gilselling, but it doesn't change what you have done already, and that's already a serious crime.

Just because a few choose to speak there mind in support does not mean the LS is 100% behind doing things with Sunboy. I for one would appreciate some decency from other players my level for something they know shit all about.
