WTF @ HQ staves

Ok, so i finally save up enough money to push woodworking from 94-100 (no small feat on bismarck), and i get there, and immediately proceed to go 0/15 on HQ staves. After a bit of tweaking, i manage to make back about as much money as i lost on the NQ streak, and have decided to start fresh, ONLY synthing on new moon. Today, i go on new moon+earthsday, and manage to pop off a whopping 2/8 HQs, barely breaking even, and tying up all of my available gil until those HQs sell. About an hour later, i get a tell from a friend who is 94+1 woodworking... he just went 2/3 on apollos staves. So, i ask anyone out there who could possibly have any explanation for all of this to please shed some light on my situation. Ive tried just about every moon phase/day combo i can think of as being advantageous to HQ, and have only had 1 synth session that made me good profit, where i went 3/4. If anyone has had any experience with this, and would like to share it, i would be much obliged. Thank you in advance.

oh crap... always forget that one^^... but seriously, the guy was 94+1 (20 lvls above cap), DEFINITELY NOT JP, and pulls 2/3 HQs out of his ass. He also claims to have averaged approximately 1/5 HQ when he used to synth them fairly often, which is a HQ rate that i can barely claim to maintain at 100+6... for the love of god wtf is wrong with this game sometimes?

my mule is 100+6 and i went 1/17 on hq staves today during new moon iceday

my over all average with HQ staves is
960/1325 NQ
297/1325 HQ
68/1325 Break

so it's around 1/4 HQ ya with 100+6, and i hate new moon, always get screwed over by new moon.

Mrwatermonkey and I went on business and we HQ'd about 60-70% of our staffs, (No idea if you all remember that time in Port jeuno where we HQ'd 12 out of the 16 lol)

I think they gimped the HQ rate some how because we was doing very good following a certain pattern and now it does not work anymore

I used to HQ the fucking shit out of Melody Earrings. It didn't matter when, where, or how I did them, I would just sit down and pop Melody Earring +1 like they were going otu of style. Now, my past 30 or so synths I've gotten 1. It really pisses me off, seeing that much gil get thrown out the window for something that really should work. So I don't know what to think either, but I do know that I see lots of 100+3 Goldsmithers buying the shit out of the ingredient for that synth, and I don't see any Melody Earring +1s popping up on the AH. So maybe they're having equally bad luck. I don't know, it's really frustrating. That used to be one of the best moneymakers, if not -the- best. Now I'm scared to touch it.

it's the law of average, 31 tier HQ rate is supposed to be around 25%

For once I'll agree, crafting is a gamble dude. The instant I hit level 53 Clothcraft, I had made one more silk cloth, and actually HQ'ed it. For those who don't know, Silk Cloth caps at 53 skill. Was pure luck.

my HQ rate so far at 100+6 is about 1 every 3-4 synths. so far i have had better results on new moon.
