Tanking Byakko Tuesday

On Tuesday my ls will be attempting Byakko they have decided to use ninjas for this it will be my 1st time tanking him and i am very nervous as i dont want to mess up and get anyone killed. What are any tips / Gear that you recomend This is my current setup

Ring1 Breeze ring / also have flame ring but wont help here

Ranged Ungur Boomerang

should i use Wind Staff or Katanas I also have Ng - dmg set i have 24 mil gil so speed belt is out of the question any help would be apprieciated!!

Not a tank, but take this for what you will...

My LS has used WAR/NINs, PLD/WARs, and NIN/WARs to tank Byakko. None of the NINs seem to focus much on evasion (probably not worthwhile... i assume he's too accurate) so the gear you listed probably will not do you any good. (Edit: The thread posted above suggests double mambo helps on Byakko with nins so perhaps large amounts of +evasion can work too, but I don't particuarly notice things like S.Harness being used by our NINs)

He triple attacks alot and eats shadows quickly. You need a good co-tank to voke off of you and the two of you switch hate back and forth as you're losing shadows. You'll want to put up fresh shadows ASAP at all times since he can eat a fresh set away within moments. Several stunners available to stun every 7-10s will also allow you to tank effectively.

I'm sure some NIN can post from their firsthand experience.

You could tank Byakko with an evasion setup although if you choose to use evasion, use bat earrings and drink blind pots and use bq and jelly ring in the ring spots. You should always use an earth staff on gods. +10 evasion is no match for 20% dmg reduction, this is an obvious choice.

However, from my experience, it is easier and the fight is more stable if you use a dmg reduction setup. With evasion it is possible to die if you make 1 mistake, whereas with dmg reduction you can last a lot longer with enough healing. Use arhat set, jelly ring, earth staff, and hp gear, eating defense food and have brd play haste songs. It should be an easy fight if you have another backup tank to bounce the monster back and forth and use melees to TA on one of the tanks for hate control.

NIN's are great on byakko with the right setup.

Your gear looks good, if you can get a scouter rope to add then that'd be great. Also like others said the bat earings and blind potions work great, if not get melody earings since nin will need a brd, also a wind staff over earth staff, go all out evasion on byakko

With all that evasion gear then you will be evading byakko alot.

Key to allowing nin to tank.

2 brds giving double haste songs for the 2 nins (one back, one front).
4+ stunners. 2 for -aga spells that byakko casts, and 2 for when nins cast Ichi. Have the nins make a macro that tells party they are casting Ichi, the Stunners MUST be on key or else it could go down hill if a stun is missed.

Make sure your mages are on top of Paralyze..that is a must as well. SMN' doing stoneskin on the nins is also a great help.

Melee SATA onto the nins to keep hate off blm's and you'll be fine. Make sure the NIN's put on chat filters to only see their info. Counting shadows is huge. Both nins fight for hate, if you allow both your nins to go down...then you'r party will wipe pretty fast unless you get a pld in their to 2hr and establish hate, and finish him off.

Our nins have done this fight many times either flawlessly or with 1 nin death. It is not hard if your team works togeather.

easiest way is to have a mithra tank, everyone loves mithra, so they stay alive with curebombs

As mentioned above, just make a rolling stun order with all your stunners.

So if you have 6 BLM or DRK or RDM/DRK, 45/6 = ~7ish seconds between stuns. Have everyone's stun macro look like:

/wait 7
/p Next person ____ stun

The more stunners you have, the easier he is...

Our nin's usually use arhats & earthstaff... we've never had issues with hate since Byakko likes to resist nukes anyways. Don't forget barblizara to help with roar.

fenrir stone (Would prefer ungur, still dont have it god damnit)

Avg nin + gear + brd + 6 blm stuns and you will be fine ....

Avg nin + brd your gonna get rocked

Have a nin tank partner 2x ta to bounce hate back and forth and 3 summoners for AA and you will be ok. I think with 3 smn their is a 20 second down time between AA.
