Race Converter Blues

Yeah, so I am trying the converter found as told in : http://www.livejournal.com/users/teffie/24336.html

Soo, i unzip as instructed in the ffxi folder, and when i run it, prompts a yes or no question to wich i got no idea what it says (would like to know that as well), but I know this:
No = Closes the thing? Everything disapeared
Yes = Error message

Now according tot eh site theres a string of registry coding to use if we get an error message, wich i tried to use.
Error.
Said something about only beeing able to add binary entries with the registry editor. Meh, checked through regedit and sure enough there was a mistake in the string
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnline\InstallFold er]
should have been
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\InstallFo lder]

Still same error, but yet there is a 1000 value entry for the PlayOnlineViewer item.


Anyone help ?

Just change the .DAT files. And btw, you're the only one who can see that you've changed your race.

lol Drin you nub, I'll look at mine when I get home. Also Kuno, the race changer still works =D I've been a taru on my screen for about a month now (I'm a hume by default).

Just keep in mind the race converter does corupt some files, a few known files are the prom dem/holla/mea (only when fighting a MR) as well quick sand caves.

It's pretty easy, All you gotta do is create the

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnline\InstallFold er]
"1000"="C:\\Program Files\\PlayOnline\\SquareEnix\\PlayOnlineViewer"

Save it in notepad as racecov.reg, after you see the icon wherever you saved it, double click on it and it'll prompt to install into the registry. Once installed, the program opens and works fine.

Well if you knew that then you would also know that you can just change the .dat files manually, not use a 3rd party program.

That's what im tyring to say I did.

Hasn't worked, gives me:
"Are you sure you want to add the information in C:\(shortcut to the file)\recover.reg to the registry?"
gives a yes or no, after pressing yes i get:
"Cannot import C:\(shortcut to the file)\recover.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."

Wich I then tried, and gives yet another error:

Urrg.

Move the race converter to your FFXI folder. It should work there.

And after the last patch, many things have become bugged when you use the race converter, so you've been warned.

The race converter and every other file it came with when you downloaded it. And make sure it is in the main FFXI folder and not the one containing FFXI shortcuts.

Put it in the folder containing the files polboot.exe ,vtable.dat + ftable.dat if that helps discern wich folder it was put in...

This is the correct string, from Teffie's LJ. If creating it in NotePad doesn't work, go into the registry manually.

Start > Run > regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software

Right-click on Software, New > Key, name it PlayOnline
Right-click PlayOnline, New > Key, name it InstallFolder
Right-click InstallFolder, New > String value, name it 1000
Right-click 1000, Modify, paste in C:\\Program Files\\PlayOnline\\SquareEnix\\PlayOnlineViewer

If you do that exactly, and have the program files in the right place, it will run. PlayOnlineUS is ***NOT*** the correct key.
