Yeah FasterFox does this already, and numerous sites ban this because it puts an incredible strain on their servers. (I hope BG can handle everyone doing this now...)

Could you actually hurt website owners because of it? That's why I never use it.
They don't upload more, just upload faster, no? Unless you end up clicking and loading more page, than you were before, I dnot think it would change much in the end.

It absolutely uses more bandwith, google it. There's a pretty big controversy on the morality of the people who developed FasterFox.

Basically, what normally happens is that when you load a web page, your browser makes a list of all the things it has to fetch remotely, starting with the HTML file itself, and moving on to include images, external CSS, external Javascript, etc.

Under normal operation, Firefox can have up to 4 connections open simultaneously, each asking for one file. Once one connection finishes, it grabs the next file off the list and moves on. If you change your connection limit to 30, it'll start 30 connections at once instead. Given that web servers can only handle a certain number of concurrent connections before downright refusing any new ones, you can see how it'd be an issue for a high-traffic server if everyone used it.

It's also not really that much faster in most cases. If you have 300k of available bandwidth, most of the time you'll end up with 30 connections at 10k a piece rather than 4 connections at 75k a piece. You save a little time on turnaround, but that's pretty negligible. The only time you gain something is when the site is either low on bandwidth already or has a per-connection bandwidth limit. In the first case, you're just making the situation substantially worse, and in the second, you may get banned, depending on the site.

On the other hand, pipelining and the render wait time are pretty harmless to turn on. Pipelining makes your connection strategy more efficient at the cost of compatibility with some (badly written) web apps, and the rendering wait makes your CPU work harder at the expense of a slightly less aesthetically-pleasing page load.

Wait, I use fasterfox. Fasterfox by default only uses a maxrequests at a time of 4. Is this causing me to every once in a while get a "Forbidden" or "Connection Denied" message from certain sites?

Yes, sites can detect if you're using it Sometimes Forbidden errors are just caused by site errors though

FasterFox has several 'intensity' settings, only one of which operates outside of RFC specs

But why bother with FasterFox unless you set it to Turbo Charged?

Yeah, things would get messy if everyone did it, but most computer users are too lacking in knowledge, which means more bandwidth for me. Fuck morality, I'll keep my page load times.

any point in fasterfox if you already manually changed these settings?

It was working fine, till the shit kept giving me a bunch of "time outs." Went back to the original settings, so use at your own risk!
