the 8 thousand yen price tag is exactly why I haven't fucking bought it, either.

Gonna wait until it hits a used game store like Traders and pick it up for 4-5k instead.

    ok, fuck square-enix.

I just saw the listed price for Final Fantasy 12 retail. 8,800 yen, fully 80 bucks american. I can buy two games at that price, and I bet they'll add up to more gaming hours than FFXII will.

DQ8 was also priced that high in Japan. So, how does DOC play?

March 16 in japan, no word about other countries.

DoC, from what I've seen, plays a lot like Devil May Cry, starring Vincent. The whole thing apparently takes place 3 years after Meteor hits Midgard, and moves from there.

There was this hero, right. But there was also this villan. There was a problem that had to be overcome and the hero killed enemies of gradual increasing strength to overcome the challanges and destroy the villan. The end.

They apparently spell "villain" differently in FFXII also.

    You consider Famitsu's ratings?

They're pretty spot-on as far as my tastes are concerned. The exact ratings were 7 across the board, marking what is at best a mediocre, uneven gaming experience.

Which is definitely not worth 8 thousand yen. By contrast, Kingdom Hearts 2 ran me about 6500 yen, and I'm still playing it. It got a perfect score of 40 (which I checked after buying it). Famitsu Weekly has done this maybe 3-4 times since the magazine was started.

They overrate games, by a margin. Sometimes I wonder if they get paid to do so or if Famitsu is just a shitty bitch. Is KH2 really good? I'm really interested in it but I hear its really short. Is that the case?

Their panel reflects japanese tastes. They review everything but they spend more attention on things like collector games (Monster Hunter 2 just came out and got huge points) and RPGs. Their general consensus on Dirge of Cerberus was 'why did they put the FFVII franchise into this game which has very little to do with what we liked about the original game?'

And yes, Kingdom Hearts 2 is that good. I haven't noticed that it's very short, but you do move around fairly quickly in that game. RPGs are called 'short' when you don't spend every minute fighting random encounters on a featureless 'world map.'

Gotta love my old Everquest hookups!

The videos here show some gameplay things, *which look great*, and some of the story from the start, no major spoilers, because, its just at the beginning of the game, the only thing thats spoiled is that you fight an airplane boss. Well, if you know no japanese, a bit more if you do.

Going to bump this with some new info:

The US release of the game looks a lot more promising than the game that Famitsu scored...

That's interesting, I'm surprized they didn't just release it as it was...

Because games of this style are more popular in the US than in Japan, so they want to make sure they milk it for all its worth.
