So I notice this pop up every once in a while when trying to ctr + r
Dont know what buttons I hit to make it pop
Whats the deal with it have I been missing out on something?

I've seen that appear without using windower. I'm not sure what causes it.

If you have Windower and the IME Plugin, you can change your typing character (EU / NA, Arab, JP, etc.).

You can configure it from Windows Config ( http://ffxi.archbell.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2166 if you want more information). Basically, the "Off" turns to "On" and the "a" turns to a JP symbol, so you can type Kanji etc.

NA and EU are not able to use that from the original version of FFXI (i.e. w/o Windower), I got it a couple times, but I think its just a bug. Its mainly for JPs so they can type in JP and in English.

It IS built into the NA games, as well as all the JP text for everything. However, NA have no access to it legally (the function to access any of the JP functions were taken out, not because of size or compatibility, but because of some legal actions). If it appears (and it does randomly, you can not do it willingly) it is because a glitch happened.

To gain full control of IME on NA, use windower. And its not that hard to use. I know very little Japanese and it took me a day or two, to fully grasp its entirety. I even made a .dic full of JP smillies, over 1500 smillies and its over 100mb >.>;

They aren't buttons, as much as they look like buttons. They're indicators. They aren't clickable in the .jp version of the game, they just tell the user the input mode currently being used by the .jp IME built into the game. They're not specific to the Windower.

Honestly, I dont remember exactlly, read it about a year ago. It was either a disagreement btwn NA SE and JP SE, or some localization issue.
