    RMT Countermeasures o_O

Since the end of last year, item values have risen astronomically on all Worlds due to the manipulation of prices by a small percentage of the player base. The development team and the GMs carried out a detailed investigation of this problem, and discovered the existence of a group using illicit methods to produce large amounts of gil that are later sold in the real world (Real Money Trading). We would like to take this opportunity to outline the measures that have been taken to correct this issue.

Based on the results of this investigation, more than 700 accounts among those found to be involved in large-scale RMT operations have been terminated. We will continue to monitor accounts suspected of dealing in gil created or obtained in an unfair manner.

Thanks to these measures, more than 300 billion gil has been removed from circulation, and the overly inflated prices of items have begun to fall to more realistic levels.

Furthermore, emergency maintenance has already been performed on all worlds for the purpose of implementing RMT countermeasures. This maintenance took place over two stages, starting on January 17th.

As has been previously stated, acts of RMT will not be tolerated in FINAL FANTASY XI, and any violations of the user agreement will be dealt with severely. We would like to assure our players that all efforts are being made to ensure a fair playing experience.

We hope to have your continuing understanding and cooperation in creating a Vana'diel that everyone can enjoy.
still see way too many of them on bismarck ;x

Now we know the reason IGE is buying like crazy. 300b = 10b per server, give or take.

However, if the RMT toons are allowed to keep monopolizing (and yes sky and money hnms are still largely controlled by scum RMT on Asura), it's only a matter of time before the cycle starts again.

Too bad I still can't get a goddamn GM to show up at LoO, where for the past week gilsellers have attempted (and not always failed) to MPK my LS and any other LS that beats them to claim.

Oh well, at least now maybe rainbow cloth and gold ingots will drop back down to non-absurd cost.

12+ stacks of r.cloth listed on Asura...probably 8-10 of those will be sent back. 20ish stacks of r.thread...same deal, 90% will be returned. 100+ spider webs listed, and never selling below 50 so anyone who isn't undercutting is getting their webs back after 3 days of occupying an AH slot.

11 SH up. Price history goes 20m->19m->18m->17m. Plenty of v.claws available. 2 SH+1 up, even, which are typically sold through rolanberry (there was at least 1 in rolanberry when I looked, listed for 5m under AH). Also seen in rolanberry: 3 chrams, for less than AH, when typically they're 3-5m OVER ah in rolanberry, hoping to catch a gilbuyer desperate for an epenis item.

There have been 2-4 v.cloaks at all times for the last week, with anywhere between 8 and 14 damascene cloths listed. Average of 1 selling per day. 2-3 shining cloths, not to mention the 5-6 undercutting AH in rolan, and 2-4 nobles on AH not selling.

Arhat hqs, blessed gear, prism capes, the list goes on and on, and I typically only pay attention to cloth products + scorpion harness.

Nothing is moving at all. We're running into a huge gil crunch. Sit in Lower Jeuno for more than 10 minutes and you'll notice a pattern to the trade shouts: everyone is looking to sell. Everyone wants to get rid of their items for gil, because the perception and the reality is that gil is increasing in value.

So did SE ban the sellers (IGE) or the farmers (chinese)?

Probably the selling accounts since thats where gil is stored.

I can imagine gilfarmers to unload their daily quota through the delivery box when they're done for the day and the next farmer takes their place. Keeping the gil on accounts that you MPK,killsteal and monopolize with is a higher risk then sending it to your pimp everyday.

They banned both kinds i think. Store mules as well as Gilfarmers, since many have disappered on some servers.
But 300.000.000.000 Gil gone WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its a nice sum and all but I don't find it that impressive. I don't want to piss in anyones cereal here.
Lets make a simple calculation with just the rustycap problem that I believe existed for 6 months.
Bare with me while I make this calculation:

Lets assume a fishbot could pull up 30 caps a day and successfully synth them to padded caps and sell them to the npc for 2000g+ something in that region.

Now lets underestimate the situation and say the average profit for every cap was 1000g(insect paste for catching it and light crystal to restore it).

    (6 monthsx30days)x30caps a day=5400x1000g profit from the npc=5400000g pure new money. From 1 account.

Now we divide the entire gil cut (across all servers) by 1 account
300,000000000g/5400000g=55555 This means that at least 55 thousand accounts would have to have been fishbotting like crazy 24hours a day for 6 whole months if that was the only source for all this gil. Now lets assume every server has their fair share of gilsellers except LOLAtomos. 55555/30servers=1851accounts per server fishbotting.

Now lets assume gilfarmers aren't completely retarded and they put up like 5 or 6 pcs each to (like the teams often did) fish this stuff. So we had 1851 accounts per server fishbotting and basically all those fishermen were operations of 6 people controlled by one gilfarmer. 1851 characters/6=308 people doing their thing to get gil per server controlling 6 people each.

Is it just me or is 300billion not that impressive?

It's just you. The christmas inflation was not due to rusty caps that happened 1.5 years ago.

If you look at my post. With gil-price going up now like items in game did it its impressive to me.

No one's bought a dragon talon on Phoenix since 1/23/06 (I was the last one, but weskits are now loss synth). I think 10 of them have been sent back and I get daily tells asking if I want to buy one.

I wasn't just talking about the christmas inflation. I was talking about the amount of gil transferrable in general not just that period. I know SEs message relates to the holiday blowout sale but that gil wasn't created in that time.

It had to come from somewhere in the first place. If the amount of gil captured now is 300billion its not that much is all I'm saying.

    edit:

300billion is a nice sum yes, impressive? No 2 years into a problem and going strong.
Don't get me wrong I'm not criticizing the action they took I think its great they're at least telling us that they're fixing the problem albeit late and slowly. I don't think they should emphasize it on the holiday season all too much because if there was a way that all that gil was created in that time as well by illicit methods I'm sure some of us had suspected or found out if there was a dupe of some sort during that period.

    Gil 100,000,000 @IGE = $1,699
    so Gil 300,000,000,000 removed = ~$ 5,090,000 ?
