Question :
why most "if not all" LSs kite Vrtra instead if tanking it directly like any other Wyrm ?
isn't straight tanking easier to recover from Wing, and avoid Breath!??

(hey, someone make a ytmnd about that)
My LS kites Fafnir ftw.
We started out doing Vrtra straight up with ninjas, it was fun but often times after roars/charms/death it was very hard to keep hate and vrtra would just run around killing people. And we had 3 nins in the pt at once. We went about... 4/8 with that strategy and then haven't lost with kiting yet. You get alot less spike flails kiting and since vrtra moves slow, anyone who has hate can kite him. but yeah straight up tanking is fun
I've killed it a few times tanking it straight up with NINs. It's not worth it. Everytime he summons he will move a few feet which is pretty damn annoying. He won't spin really if you have smart tanks that know where to stand, but what ends up happening is that Vrtra smacks himself into a wall and it makes the WHMs & mages in the tank PT pretty uncomfortable. Also he Spike Flails pretty often and easily with this setup.
Both kiting and non kiting you can kill him in about an hour. It's something fun to do if you're looking for a challenge though

The main reason you avoid straight tanking is the summoning/positioning crap (if you dont know what im talking about, aggro about 5 mobs, then stand still, they all auto-adjust themselves). but it's doable, i remember a LS on cerebrus claiming to have killed it both straight up and straight tank.

lol?
When Vrtra was first killed on Bahamut, PG+Way killed it straight up. It just requires a really good stunner on flail duty.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

Nice avatar too.
pg&way won with lori having stunned like 4(?) spike flails between 5% and 0%

but, if he actually stunned that junk he was the key to the win
without his stunning of *every ws tiamat jorm and vrtra ever dared to try vs pg&way* they wouldnt have won

he moves far less if you have someone who understands touchy wyrm positioning and if you have him on flat ground
Like bani and deme said we have tanked Vrtra str8 up many times and won several. Lost several as well. Its def a challange and bragging rights but it is def harder. You can get those random spike flails from small changes in position or the 2-3 wings back to back which are hard to recover. If Vrtra is being a bitch you can lose 2-3 times in a row tanking str8 up. *the memories*
we tanked it straight up...it was harder of course but we killed it our own way...
i miss going to vrtra ; ;
I don't know if we just had it randomly easy, I've only fought Vrtra one time. It seemed that he really didn't have as much a chance to TP when we kited him. We saw maybe 3-4 wings the entire fight, 2-3 breaths (all of them right on our smn party of course). I may have missed a few as I was busy with the summons but usually someone said something like breath or wing in /linkshell so we knew to wake people up or toss out emergency cures.
Here's pics of me and a few friends trioing vrtra. See what happens when you are drunk and bored:
