For windows XP pro. But probably very similair for all
    other windows versions.

    1.click START >> control panel.
2.If not already switch to classic view (lots of icons
instead of flash looking blue screen with only a few
    icons)
3.double click "Regional and language options"
4.In the new box that pops up click the tab on top
'advanced' and make sure the box 10001 (MAC-Japanese)
    is checked.
5.click the 'Languages' tab and if not already
checked, check the box next to "Install files for
complex scripts and right to left languages (including
Thai) and also the box next to "Install files for east
Asian languages" (If these aren't check and you have
to check em, it'll probably ask you to put in your
windows CD about now. its cool, it just needs to
install some stuff to windows. Its all automatic. If
you have to restart yor computer, do that then start
again from 5, the boxes will be ticked this time ^^)
This is just so your comp can display the characters.
    Can you read this:

    おはよございます!

If you can see the characters and not a load of
jumbled mess, you know that the right character sets
    are installed on your comp

    6.click 'details'
7 under 'Installed services' click 'Add'
8.On the new box click the drop down menu under 'Input
Language' Scroll down to Japanese and select it.
9.click the drop down box under 'keyboard layout/IME'
    and selecty japanese.
    10. click OK and on th elast box (text services and
input languages) make sure under japanese - keyboard
it says "Microsoft IME standard 2002 8.1" (it should
do this anyway, but check just incase)
11.Click 'Language Bar' and check the box next to
"Show th elanguage bar on the desktop"
    12.click OK
    13.Click Apply then ok
14.You should now have a little button in your start
bar that says "EN" if you click this all your
installed languages will pop up. Each language is
program specific, meaning that if you change language
in outlook express, it'll revert back to your default
language when you select a different program window
(like internet explorer) So if you want to type
Japanese in a different window you have to select
    Japanese again.
Anyway.. once you select Japanese and are ready to
type, click the button that did say "EN" it should now
say "JP" select 'show the language bar' click 'Input
method' and select HIRAGANA. Then click 'IME pad' and
then click back of the anguage bar (I dont know why
you click IME pad but fo rme if i dont it doesnt work
    >.<)
Now you type in Romanji and it will change to
Hiragana, to change characters press the space bar and
it will convert them to kanji or katakana
automatically, press space twice and it'll open up a
box so you can choose.. This is all a bit much for me
though so I just type everything in Hiragana.

    Nice one x

I wrote this off the top of my head in an email to my friend about getting Japanese in windows, its maybe a bit wrong, like.. maybe one or two tab headings might not be exact, but if you follow it im sure its right enough. I just copied it straight from the email i sent him to here.

Do all that, download Azarils windower if you dont use it.. but you do right? and you want the IME plug in, IME.DLL installed into your windower plugin folder. >> http://ffxi.archbell.com/

Now start FFXI with windower, you should type but the writing will be in green and you have to hit enter twice to send /t and stuff? Tab out of FFXI to desktop, click on EN language tab and click 'Show the language bar', tab back into FFXI and change the language bar to Japanese. You can minimize the language bar again if you want.

Now to change between english and JP in FFXI, on my comp its ALT+` (button next to the 1). same to change back to english.

If this is all a bit wrong, im sure people can help you out more, Im useless with remembering this stuff, luckily I had that email I wrote ages ago :D

Chink is a slang for Chinese. If you're gonna be a racist prick, at least be an educated racist prick.
