Expansion music replacement (download)

Don't be worried by the .exe extension. It's just a self extracting rar file that automatically assumes you installed FFXI in the default directory. If you want to virus check it, feel free, but my PC is clean and I've already scanned it myself with AVG just so I can say for sure theres no viruses. You can also right click it and extract the files that way if you don't feel safe and you know where the files go; the self extractor was just to ease installation issues.

Anyway, if you want to make a backup copy for some reason of the 80s porno music we call the Aht Urghan expansion, then just copy the following folder to another directory: C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\sound4\win\music\data

In terms of what this replaces:

- Title (Vanadiel March 4, aka Star Wars) music replaced with Apocolyptica main theme

- Whitegate, etc. replaced with an ambient 5 minute long track that still fits the city and sounds much less annoying when you're in the city for an extended period of time

- Thicket, Woodlands replaced with some track I have no idea where I got it from (it was off a CD I burned a while ago with random game music)

- Boat music replaced with one of Lineage II's tracks

- Reef replaced with another track I forgot the name of

- Group battle music heard when fighting in outside expansion areas taken from RTCW's soundtrack

- Mire replaced with something that I forgot the name of as well

In terms of legallity, all these tracks are available for free on the web. Most of them came from http://www.billbrownmusic.com with two exceptions (those being title music + thicket/woodlands), which came from another site that hosts game music that hasn't been released in CD format (at least in the US).

The general consensus seems to be that Aht Urhgan's music owns, this post surprises me. But whatever, your choice. Just don't go forcing that opinion of the music on everyone else, because it is only that- an opinion.

And yeah I'm not saying go download this or I'll kill you. I just figured I'd make this available to anyone who started to get annoyed by the music like most of my LS seemed to. Everyone has their own taste, if you like the original stuff then ignore me

I'd never replace FFXi's music, takes away from the zone's environment is.

I cannot believe anyone would want to change the new music. I was absolutely floored by how epic the Arrapago Reef and Caedarva Mire musics were, so much so that I want to make a thread asking if anyone has ripped them yet.

I really like all the new music, so far I haven't changed anything yet. Old music, on the other hand, I've changed almost everything in every zone I visit regularly.

MH music = Djobi Djoba (Gipsy Kings), Jeuno = Sandstorm (Darude), Windurst = Vivi's theme from FF9, Sky = Castles in the Sky (Ian Van Dahl), Sea = Fire (Ferry Corsten), list goes on for a while :D

Like I said it's all personal taste. I just did this because people were complaining in my LS about the music, including me. The city music got on my nerves after hearing it for 30m-1h while doing missions/quests, and the boat music was just bleh.

Anyway it doesn't hurt to give this a try and see if you might like it more (just back up your old folder). Personally I feel it adds more atmosphere to the zones than the old music since it's more ambient and fits into the background better (e.g. the reef music has dripping water, etc.). It's not like I'm selling anything here or pushing a product after all

can listen to in on winamp too before installing or back up the old music.

I'm glad they replaced into/char select screen music. I was getting really annoyed by it lately.

Nashmau bgm is by far the coolest imho.
