DiceFun : What are the odds of rolling...

What are the odds of rolling 999 and 0 in the span of 3 minutes?

However, chance of rolling the same number twice in a row is only 1 in 1000. So... Big whoop

BTW, there are 1000 possible numbers, not 999. So chance of rolling 999 twice in a row is 1 in 1,000,000.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, because we all know their Random Number Generator isn't exactly random.

Umm...because its impossible to randomise anything on a computer?

That was from an earlier roll she made, it was too far up in the screenshot and didn't want to make that particular image any larger than it should be.

Right, because we all can roll "X" number whenever we feel like it.

Yeah, we got bored waiting for one of our PT members to get his KeyItem for an ENM run.

lol, I wasn't talking about like that. I'm talking about it isn't even a pseudo-random number generator.

    BTW, no it isn't.

    I've never even rolled a 999 before.

You miss my point. If he had rolled 518 twice in a row we'd be seeing the same screenshot with 518 instead of 999. Who cares that it was 999?

999 is special, 3x same digit
999 is the last (or 2nd last, depending on which way you think) number you can random of a roll.
    He did that twice.
However, it did not stop there, the next roll went all the way to the other side of the spectrum to roll a 0.

518 is not special, it's boring and obnoxious, I punched 518 in the face because he was annoying.

    Wins.

Btw, there's no such thing as a "random number generator", as most programs use an algorithm to calculate the number produced. Oftentimes, it uses time as a check factor in determining which number to produce.

In short, it doesn't just pick a number out of thin air, it goes through a mathematical process to produce a number, and is therefore not truly random.

    Wrong.

Indeed, but there are certain levels of "randomness". The RNG used by FFXI appears to not even conform to the standards of "pseudo-randomness", which is about as weak as you can get and still be able to get a way with calling it random. I find this humorous, since they need only call the C function rand() to generate a pseudo-random number. Instead it seems they opted to create their own custom "random" number generator that exhibits certain generational patterns and trends.

aka: You believe in the retards on KI and their conxpiracies about lotting and probably were cheering on that one retard who thought he could script a program that would generate the same number over and over so he could take out casino's

Oh wow you've just opened yourself up for all sorts of owning.

All computed random numbers must contain correlations and thus are not truly random. While the more sophisticated of the generators do a better job at hiding the correlations, experience shows that if you look hard enough or use these numbers enough you will notice correlations. An alternative to generating random numbers is to read in a table of true random numbers, that is, numbers determined by naturally random processes such as radioactive decay.

So how do we generate truly random numbers on a computer? The short answer is that we can't. Computers are deterministic machines that always do exactly what that they are programmed to do. In general, this is a good thing, for explains why we trust computers to balance our checkbook correctly. But it eliminates the possibility of looking to computers as a source of true randomness.
So, you think either there is a guy employed at SE picking numbers randomly out of a hat, or they have a nuclear reactor to generate your /randoms and lots? lol @ u.
