Grats magus Keep going with your pics, they'll only get better and better. Soon you'll discover your own methods of doing things (like how i did my glow ). One way I practiced was by trying to copy other pictures and get their same effect. There's many tutorial pages out there.
outside of the filters i like to use Curves to play with the colors and contrast and highlights and all that... minor to extreme changes
Try using fraps or windower's screenshot capability for your source picture. Its difficult to see much on a 400x300 screenshot which is the default official FFXI screenshot size. Knock up the resolution all the way if you want, still photos aren't affected by FPS. Still looks pretty nice.Originally Posted by Maguspk
I play on like 800x600 or whatever the largest recommended instance of FFXI is. And my background resolution is the highest possible, I just play on a small window, so maybe that's it? Or maybe I'm just saving it wrong/editing wrong. Can anyone please tell me how to make my pictures bigger?Originally Posted by Dezzimal
Use windower screenshots (prtscrn) or fraps. FFXI resizes to a retarded size.
That is a windower screenshot, but ffxi auto takes a picture and adds its stamp to the corner because I have to hide the console then hit Scroll Lock for the screenshot.Originally Posted by aurik
Remap the screenshot button for your screencap program.

Blame photobucket on the size....
Ty Lordwafik for the tut. I almost forgot most of my PS stuff from high school.

Again ty for the explaining how you did it all, it was VERY helpful.
I have a question though, for my pictures I've just been dividing the ground between the different layers, for example:
For background I isolate the background elements and the ground with it.
For midground (is that the proper term?) I isolate the midground and the ground around it, and so on for Foreground.
At any rate, how does everyone else do it? It semms like people are only making like a single character their foreground? Is it better to make the main thing that is closest to the camera as the foreground alone? Or is making the ground around the foreground a part of the foreground acceptable too?
I dunno what to call the midground I just call it that.Originally Posted by Maguspk
As for the foreground, I just chose a thing to focus on, and blur whatever isnt part of that. I use parts of the ground/area directly around the focus target. Keep in mind you dont have to focus on a whole character, you can focus on a part or just 1 small peice of the pic like this .

Or you can do it in reverse, blur the foreground and focus on something in the background.
i could throw in some tips or tutorials too here...
im being too lazy to make my own signiture
here is some of the stuff i made a while back...ill contribute later if someone needs some ideas/advice

I figured out the best way, for me at least of doing the layer dividing. First off I duplicate the original layer so that I have 2 copies of the original. Since my midground seems to always be the largest and most annoying layer to make I will layer via cut my foreground and layer via cut my background. This leave my with a copy of the original image with everything except the foreground and background, thusly leaving the midground. Then I simply gaussian blur and adjust and bam, done ^.^
You guys let your Taru PLD actually come to events as PLD? =/
I'm taru NIN and I get no <3, except for limbus once.
@ magus : Getting there, except it looks like you've blurred the whole pic except for the character you're focusing on. You need to have a little focus
Look at some RL photography as examples where blur starts getting heavy and when it fades out to sharpness.
Unlike taru nins, taru plds own.Originally Posted by Dezzimal
KK I'll keep that in mind. I did think about that however as I was doing them. It feels like when I don't but the Gaussian blur for the background and midground at around 2+ the foreground doesn't get a big enough focus. I will try lowering my blur though on my midground. What do you use for background and midground blurs usually? Does it vary from distance to distance?Originally Posted by Lordwafik
@ the comments on Taru PLD. Minue is a Tarutaru melee lol, SAM,NIN,PLD,WAR all at 75. As for Allowing him to come as PLD, we needed 2 PLD's and Minue and Arturos were the ones that showed up. We don't have a zerg force we just go with what we have and rape shit.
