Thread: FFXI Data     submit to reddit submit to twitter

    FFXI Data

So last week I decided I was going to parse the DAT files to get a list of every monster in the game. I was going to use it for my parser since sometimes messages are ambiguous and it's impossible to figure out whether somethign is helping you (e.g. an NPC) or fighting against you (e.g. an enemy). Should be easy, right? It's all in the DAT files after all. This turned out to be a fucking huge undertaking, but I'm glad it's over. I thought other people might find this useful, and I plan to maintain this site across future updates, so it will always have the most up-to-date information possible about enemies, NPCs, targets, and "hidden" shit in the game.

To give you an idea how much of a pain in the ass this was, the DAT files contain no information about whether something is an enemy, NPC, target, or debugging related. There were 6,412 entries spread across all the DAT files. That means I had to manually analyze 6,412 things and use somepage to figure out if they were known NPCs or enemies, and mark a flag in the file to indicate which it was.

Anyway, now that this is done, I'm glad I can continue working on the parser lol. I plan to change some of the formats in the future to separate out the enemies, NPCs, targets, and debug points in the links that point to individual zones. Like have it display all enemies at the top, all NPCs below that, all targets below that, and all debugging stuff below that.

If anyone can tell me the categorization of any of the points I've marked as unknown, I'd appreciate it. That was stuff I couldn't find on any database site and it didn't ring a bell to me.

o.O Alot of those are easy to tell if they are npcs/mobs etc. Most of the city ones are easy to tell as npcs (valantione singles). I see a bunch of Antican mobs in temenos, for example.

Weather is probably a debug thing.

Most of the "Unknown" in city zones are NPCs that show up in cut-scenes. The way cut-scenes are displayed, the NPC in them has to actually exist somewhere, I believe. So, these NPCs have to be in the data files.

Possible to cross-reference each area with their corresponding .DAT?

yea, I noticed that in a lot of places. Like Raogrimm for example, I immediatley remembered him from a cutscene. However, I dont' want to mark something as an NPC unless I can definitively relate that NPC to a specific cutscene somewhere. It's likely that every one of the NPC names I marked with a ? is in a cutscene somewhere, but it's possible some are in no cutscene anywhere, and the NPC simply doesn't appear anywhere in the game.

Sounds like you need a labeling or section for cutscene-only NPCs. Like Prishe in Riverne areas, and such.

Yea, I can include that information in there sometime. For at least the next few days, I don't even want to look at this shit anymore though lol. 6,412 searches to somepage's database leaves me tired.

Ace of Wands is a cardian who appears in a few cutscened and as an opponent in Full Moon Fountain.

Altana speaks in a cutscene but never appears.

    Baa is a sheep.

Brass Statue takes a code in Cast Oztroja.

Brazier in the Eldieme Necropolis are torches that you have to touch for a quest.

Bright Moon is the outpost merchant in Cape Terrigan.

Cornellia is actually two different characters. One is A character in Bastok who tried to help the Galkas, the other is the Mythril Musketeer who died in Xarcabard and drives the Dynamis storyline by trying to get you to save Raogrimm.

Dalzakk is an adventurer who is involved in the Bastok mission storyline and appears in a few cutscenes.

I'll look for more after lunch.

Jabbos is the Galka that appears in later COP missions.

Ramblix (I'm guessing) is the "replay cutscenes" goblin. (seems to be Trailmix in some zones)

Bapokk (Mt. Zhayolm) is an Immortal that blocks a zoneline. (remnants?)

    Mildauron is Esha'ntarl.

Cirrate Christelle (Dyna-Valk) is the Malboro megaboss.

    Nant'ina (Dyna-Valk) is a Goobbue boss.

Stcemqestcint (Dyna-Valk) is a treant boss I believe.

Yve'noile is from COP and Zilart cutscenes.

Hooray for slow days at work.

    Sarcophagus - {The Eldieme Necropolis} NPC, I assume for a quest
its not a NPC, its a target point for BRD AF. Accessed via Beaucedine entry point.

  16. #16

    Did a quick look:

Borghertz - The AF Gloves guy, only appears in cutscene
Hooknox - Headgear quest (A Moral Manifest?), think it's only cutscene, not sure as I have yet to get him to appear
Joker - Part of Windy Missions, Cardian made to control the Aces
Volker - Bastok leader, apparently son of the dude that killed Cornellia and Raogrimm, he is in cutscenes (possibly Bastok, I've never done, but read) and ToAU @ the meeting in Jeuno
Yve'noile - Believe this is the NPC that gives the DM quest, plus other Zilart story line

So you want a specific location before you write off anything as an NPC or whatever? Fair enough, though I would say that most things in cities are NPCs, yeah >_>

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain everything in Apollyon and Temenos is a monster (except things like the Sentinel Column and any debug targets I don't know about). Examples are things like Bardhas and Barometzes, ghosts and mandragoras respectively.

Alexius is an NPC for a Sando quest. (I've had that quest for two years <3)

Balarahb is one of the NPCs you rescue in Saving Private Ryaaf in Periqia.

Breis are... I can't remember exactly what they are, but I'm pretty sure they're a mob.

"Bridge" is the thing that Nag'molada extends in a cutscene in the Spire of Vahzl. I suppose it's a targetable point before you kill the 3 NMs.

Broken Troll Soldiers are mobs used in the Troll Fugitives assault in Lebros.

Brontotaurs are normal Tauri in uleguerand.

Cirrate Christelle is the Malboro boss of Dynamis-Valkurm.

Clay is just a target for some Mhauran quest. You get Gusgen Clay from it.

CrystalKnight... probably refers to the Ark Angels that get summoned in the various cutscenes when fighting Kammy.

Enigmatic Spheres are the treasure chests for the Promyvion ENMs.

Eonnite's Revelations is the title of a book in Tav Safehold.

Exoplates are the monster-things that float around Eald'narche in ZM17.

Experimental Undead are fomors running around in Saving Private Ryaaf.

Fire Pukis is one of the four (I think? never been) dragons that come with Angra Mainyu in Dynamis-Beaucedine.

Fissures are targetable points that can be used to get back up holes in Uleguerand if you have a Mystic Ice in your key items.

I think Forbidding Koheel Ja is one of the bosses you fight if the Mamool Ja take the Astral Candysense.

Francmage is a pretty important San d'Orian NPC, shows up in lots of cutscenes.

Gessho is your GOD. How could you not know him, you godless heathen? (NPC in Aht Urhgan missions.)

Giant Moa is the mob duo you fight in Moa Constrictors, I think.

Goublefaupe is one of the attestation shadows you can fight in Dynamis-Beaucedine.

Hawk Nose is an NPC used in the quest The Kuftal Tour.

Heralds are NPCs that start Ballista and Brenner matches.

The Illusory Image talks to you in the ZM7 CS, as an NPC.

Ingaevon is a gigas mob you fight as part of some NPC quest.

Jabbos is a hilariously badly dressed Galka NPC in Promathia missions.

Karaha-Baruha is a pretty important NPC in Windy missions.

Lanterns are targetable points for ZM4.

Luminants are targetable points in Attohwa, used to get some phoenix feathers.

Molyb'iton is one of the Tonberries you fight in ZM4.

Nashmeira is the queen of Aht Urhgan. She talks, so I guess she's an NPC.

Odin is an NPC that appears in a CS in Whitegate. I guess his mob equivalent is the Dark Rider.

You've never met Ramblix?! He's the goblin NPC who does a ton of CS rewatching at Goblin Footprints.

Razfahd is an NPC, grand vizier of Aht Urhgan.

Ryaaf is an NPC in Saving Private Ryaaf.

Semih Lahfina is an NPC in several Windurst missions.

Shadow of Darkness is the name of the shadow lord NPC that shows up in the Magicite rank missions.

Tillecoe is that Ballista NPC that hangs out in Ru'Lude, by the MH stairs.

Tipha is one of the Opo-opo NMs you fight for ZM5.

Trailmix is the hilariously named goblin NPC who handles cutscene-rewatching in Lumoria.

Vassago is a demon you fight in a BC for the NPC quests.

Village Well is a targetable point in Davoi, maybe for rdm AF1?

Wanzo-Unzozo is the NPC used in the Garlaige escort.

Yve'noile is an NPC who talks a lot throughout Zilart missions, notably Divine Might.

It took me so long to type this, I'm gonna get beaten hard on a lot of these >_>

    {Beaucedine Glacier, Cape Teriggan, Castle Oztroja, Dragon's Aery, Horlais Peak, Ifrit's Cauldron, Metalworks, North Gustaberg, Ru'Aun Gardens, Ru'Lude Gardens, Sea Serpent Grotto, The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah, Valley of Sorrows, Western Altepa Desert}
There are some NPCs that have the same location list above (example: Lhu Mhakaracca). These zones are the ones that have the blank spots in them that are used for stage5 relic cutscene. My guess is all the NPCs that have identical zone listings as the quote above are all part of the relic CS.

I was looking to see what you named the blank spot in your listings of the zones, but noticed this when I didnt see the blank spot listed.

It's not so much that I can't tell by looking at their name what they are. It's that I dont' know if the thing is actually "implemented". Eventually, after i get enough input (which, btw, holy shit at all the responses in this thread lol thanks^^) it'll be to the point where anything with a ? is something that nobody has ever seen. Kind of like Goblin Wolfman, I know it's an enemy, but I'm still going to mark it with a ? because it's nice to be able to have one list of shit that we know is "not implemented or never been figured out".
