So last week I decided I was going to parse the DAT files to get a list of every monster in the game. I was going to use it for my parser since sometimes messages are ambiguous and it's impossible to figure out whether somethign is helping you (e.g. an NPC) or fighting against you (e.g. an enemy). Should be easy, right? It's all in the DAT files after all. This turned out to be a fucking huge undertaking, but I'm glad it's over. I thought other people might find this useful, and I plan to maintain this site across future updates, so it will always have the most up-to-date information possible about enemies, NPCs, targets, and "hidden" shit in the game.
To give you an idea how much of a pain in the ass this was, the DAT files contain no information about whether something is an enemy, NPC, target, or debugging related. There were 6,412 entries spread across all the DAT files. That means I had to manually analyze 6,412 things and use somepage to figure out if they were known NPCs or enemies, and mark a flag in the file to indicate which it was.
Anyway, now that this is done, I'm glad I can continue working on the parser lol. I plan to change some of the formats in the future to separate out the enemies, NPCs, targets, and debug points in the links that point to individual zones. Like have it display all enemies at the top, all NPCs below that, all targets below that, and all debugging stuff below that.
If anyone can tell me the categorization of any of the points I've marked as unknown, I'd appreciate it. That was stuff I couldn't find on any database site and it didn't ring a bell to me.
