overheat or there's problem with your psu
scan your memory, and also check out your video card. Those were the two culprits in my situation this weekend.
idk how to do that though, I SAID IM NOT GOOD
overheating is most likely, if you have POS memory then replace that (although that's usually blue box of death and not reboots)
If he was overheating, he would get the beeps of death at startup.Originally Posted by Raineer
Get a program that scans your memory at startup. I think Microsoft has an official one. It will take a while to sit through it though. As for the video card. Reinstall it with latest drivers and reinstal directx would be the fastest way I guess.

How old is the computer? What make/model?
When's the last time you opened it up?
Have you moved it recently?
Loose connections, bad memory and overheating due to clogged airflow (read: too much dust) all cause random-ish reboots.
Microsoft's memory tester: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Failing that, open up the box and reseat everything starting with the cards, then working your way to the power supply and drives in your comp.
If you're still having problems, clean the fans in your power supply and take an air cleaner to your mobo.
Still having problems means bad hardware elsewhere, time to buy a new computer or pay a professional to diagnose/replace the malfunctioning part.
my friend's computer was doing the same thing for months, and she finally let me look at it, I opened up the case and just as I had thought, you couldn't see anything under the dust, I cleaned it out and it stopped shutting down
Well....but it's not necessarily overheating at startupOriginally Posted by Demosthenes

Only saying that the computer keeps restarting is pretty vague, so I don't know how you guys immediately jumped to it overheating or being a hardware problem at all. NEED MO IN-FO
I think we all need to know when it restarts. During bootup? While Windows or w/e OS you got running is loading? Or just after using the computer for a while?
just get SpeedFan if your mobo supports it. You'll know if you are overheating or not before you even open your case.
