    help with fSTR $_$

    I have been reading up on the weaponskill damage calculations on wiki, and everything makes sense to me but fSTR

    * fSTR is calculated by fSTR2/2. So, melee attack needs roughly 4~6 STR to increase fSTR value by 1
    lol@fSTR is calculated by fSTR2/2 .. how do you find fSTR2 to then divide it by 2? I dont know that either, because the wiki doesn't explain how to find fSTR2 either... >_>

    I have read in other places, that fSTR is simply (my STR - monster VIT)
    but this then begs the question, how does one determine the monsters VIT?

    I will address this now to cover all my bases, because someone is certain to point me at the link underneath the aforementioned useless information that says, "The upper cap of fSTR is ( weapon rank+8 )"

    Well Weapon Rank is calculated by floor(Weapon Damage Rating/9)
    but it doesnt tell you what floor means, nor how to find this number. So again, im stuck please fill me in on whatever it is that i'm obviously missing.

    floor is a math term!

    "The floor is the closest integer that is less than or equal to the specified number or expression"

    so by that definition if i had a weapon with 75 dmg, and i said:

    weapon rank = floor(75/9) = floor(8.333333)

    then the weapon rank would be equal to 8?

    that is correct

    ninja edit: ceiling is the opposite (round up)

    speaking of ceiling, I always thought it was neat that

    ceiling(9.999999repeating) = 9.999999repeating

    that sounds interesting why is it that ceiling(9.9999999repeating) wouldnt be = 10 ?

    It is. It's just that 9.99999999repeating = 10.

  14. #14

    .99999999repeat = x

    multiply each side by 10

    10x = 9.9999999repeat

    subtract x from both sides

    9x = 9

    divide by 9 both sides

    x = 1

    math is fun.

    fSTR2 is explained very well in wiki, I am not sure where you have any confusion. Maybe the confusing part is that it's called fSTR2? Just call it fRNGSTR then or something. It's just the damage bonus for ranged attacks, and we only have a precise estimate for situations where you have a lot more str than the mob's vit (in the other situations, the random added/subtracted from each hit we do just makes it hard to figure out what's happening experimentally).
    As wiki says, in those cases it's about (STR-VIT+4)/2, and it's also capped by weapon skill level by the usual (floor(weapon damage rating/9)+8)/2, except it's a little different for h2h of course (since it is +dmg and base damage for h2h is connected to h2h skill). Like people pointed out, floor or truncate is just a normal math function so basic that they didn't even bother describing it or making a link for it, like they don't describe '+' or '='...

    Basically.

    STR is the only modifier for Xbow/Gun WSs, STR & AGI are modifiers for Bow WSs. And whoever says STR means nothing to -anyones- WSs (yes even those melee mages), is retarded. STR boosts everything up, so its beneficial to all.

    STR is what helps you hit more hits on multi hit weapon skills. STR will keep the damage of all the hits consistant. STR is God.

    To an extent, yes. If the mob has high enough VIT and Defense, you're still going to have a consistant range, but attack is what evens out that range, and makes the hits similar from swing to swing.
