BANGKOK, Thailand (CNN) -- Tanks and troops patrolled Bangkok early Wednesday after the chief of Thailand's army said the military was taking control of the country.

The Thai media is reporting that Gen. Sonthi Boonyaratkalin, Army Chief and leader of the coup, has been in close contact with Notre Dame Quarterback Brady Quinn.

"Given his performance last week against Michigan, I believe he is the perfect man to overthrow the government."

They showed the Thai delegation to the U.N. all busy on their cell-phones, apparently during Bush's speech.

who knows, if the coup doesn't have popular support I doubt it'll last long.

Supposedly it does have popular support and the organizers of the coup are fiercely loyal to the king of thailand, who is probably the most popular king in the history of the entire world across all civilizations. I haven't checked to see the latest, but from what I understand the point of this coup was to restore democracy to thailand because some of the liberties of the people were being taken away by the current prime minister. If that's the case, it would seem like this might be a good thing for Thailand, although I haven't really read anything about this since first thing after it was announced yesterday.

This turn of events is actually kind of interesting. I honestly wonder how (I have a gut feeling we will) The US would get involved in this dispute.

Don't want to bring up the Jon-Benet Ramsey thing really, but the guy that admitted to killing her was found in Bangkok, Thailand. I was watching something on CNN I think about the whole situation and said the guy was in an area of Bangkok that is noted for child prostitution and pornography. They said child prostitution was Thailand's 3rd biggest money maker to tourists. That is fucking scary.
