I was browsing at the Squeenix page and came across this:

Sony is doing a copy of Nintendo. Ken Kutaragi mentioned PlayStation 3 will be able to download and playback classic 16-bit Mega Drive (Genesis) and PC-Engine (Turbografx) titles, it is also possible to play a small fee to play certain time-limited game demos.

This story isn't complete and I can't think of one time where they haven't dropped the price around the world. But the $500 has a HDMI port so the only thing your missing is Wi-Fi and 40 Gigs of space on the hardrive. If they drop it to $430. Its really not a bad buy for a more powerful system. And it becomes the cheaper buy because an Xbox 360 + HD-DVD (Quoted at $170) is $570.

Agreed. But companies always do that, if they see another company get a good reaction from the public on something or they do something that proves successful, everyone jumps on the boat. Look at MP3 Players lol.

But really, it's such a common sense move. People begged Nintendo for years to make their systems backwards compatible for older cartridges, they decided to listen in the form of pay-downloads. (And they are going to reap the rewards for doing it.)

If the cheap PS3 isn't crippled in any other ways, $430 starts to sound pretty good, especially if you can pickup a big, cheap hd from a local computer shop and swap it in later. I'd rather use a patch cable instead of wi-fi as it is.
