    FFXI transfer -> New Comp

    I know this has probably been posted before but, I could not find it in search on either these or the old forums to my problem(well, my friend's problem).

    She has gotten a brand new computer and just copy and pasted her Playonline folder to her new computer. POL will not start when she clicks it. I assume you have to mess with the registry but I dunno what myself. Could someone please give me step-by-step instructions on what she would need to do? If not, at least a link to step-by-step intructions. Sorry for posting this D;
    She doesn't want to reinstall cause well, she's on 56k and will take 1-2 days on her crappy connection.

    Reinstall, then copy the folder over. You wont have to download updates, but you will have to go through "check files" once.

    Or at the least copy your User file over so you don't have to rewrite all your macros.

    You could try exporting the PlayOnlineUS entry (in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software, I believe) in the registry and importing it onto your new system.

    QFT. I did this last week, had to install on my new comp after the old one fried its mainboard. Copying the macros over saved me a ton of time.

    I also installed from the new DVD version of the game that came out last month and includes all three expansions, helped speed things up too.

    By any chance, do you know what those entries might be?

    A quick glance through HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT showed POLCore.POLCoreComm and POLCore.POLCoreComm.1 might be the two likely suspects, but I don't know if there are any other more cleverly named branches that I'm not immediately seeing.

    Just download a DVD install from off the interweb, and punch in your codes.

    I have no clue unfortunately. The error message given to me at the time did not specify any filenames.

    But try it and let us know!

    You don't need to reinstall. Import the PlayOnline registry settings and then register polcore.dll, app.dll, PolContents.dll, FFXi.dll, FFXiMain.dll, and FFXiVersions.dll with regsvr32.

    Re: FFXI transfer -> New Comp

    HOLY NECRO!!

    I normally do this method when copying FFXI to a new computer. FFXI will load just fine etc. etc. Windower however, will not work. After clicking play and POL fades out and FFXI starts to load, the border of ffxi's screen comes up, then gives me a POL error and crashes POL.

    Any idea how to get around this w/o reinstalling FFXI? I don't want to reinstall because I have ffxi on another partition already (vista) and I would want to use the same installation to play on my new partition (XP). Seems dumb to have the game installed twice.

    Re: FFXI transfer -> New Comp

    Copied from http://www.windower.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8434

    Prepare:
    1. Start->Run, type "regedit"
    2. Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS
    3. Right click the folder and select "Export"

    Move:
    4. Copy all files to new PC
    5. copy the registration file you exported

    Install:
    6. run the registration file to import the registration data
    7. Do a search under playonline folder
    Start -> Run -> cmd
    cd program files\playonline (if you install in this directory)
    dir /s *.dll
    8. For each .dll file, type regsvr32 xxx.dll
    (For example, regsvr32 FFXi.dll)
    9. Enjoy the game
    Save into a .bat file, and put it in PlayOnline\SquareEnix\

    regsvr32 /s "FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXi.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXiMain.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXiResource.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXiVersions.dll"

    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\polhook.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\unicows.dll"

    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\patchfiles\PlayOnlineViewer\view er\com\app.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\patchfiles\PlayOnlineViewer\view er\com\polcore.dll"

    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\polcfg\sysinfo.dll"

    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\util\unicows.dll"

    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\ax\MSVCR71.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\ax\polmvf.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\ax\polmvfINT.dll"

    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\com\app.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\com\polcore.dll"

    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\contents\PolContents. dll"
    regsvr32 /s "PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\contents\polcontentsINT.d ll"

    regsvr32 /s "TetraMaster\TM.dll"
    Be warned, i tried doing this from an XP system to a Vista system and it didn't work very well. Lol. Worked fine going from XP to XP though. GL ^.^b.

    I've done all this already. My problem is that when FFXI is installed, it's installing something to another directory that allows windower to work or something that these instructions aren't covering. It's happened on an XP > XP installation and Vista > XP installation to me so far.

    Re: FFXI transfer -> New Comp

    Not to resurrect a dead thread, but I just built this new system as mentioned in the Crysis thread and I want to install FFXI on it... do I just copy all of the ROM/sound/etc folders?
