I think a lot of it depends on the demographics of where you grow up. I live in Iowa where 95% of every school here is white. When I was going through school, I only had problems with black kids and always saw them having problems. Therein lies the problems. When I was younger, I only *noticed* it was the black kids that were having the problems because I was always watching for it, I guess. I think a lot of people stick to this, rather than move on from it, thus the discreet (kept discreet, most of the time, because it's very unsocially acceptable in most places) hatred lying in a lot of people.

There are and always will be some cultural differences and stereotypes affiliated with race. You're never going to get rid of it. According to genetics, dominant genes will begin appearing more and more in the world, but with technology gaining as fast as it is, modifying eye colors, skin colors, hair colors, etc., will probably eventually become the norm.

I personally think it's more socially prominent in America, but that's because, on a much larger scale of what I said above, we are one of the most diverse countries and "everyone is watching us," so everyone else notices/comments on it. Other countries have racism, too, it's just not pointed out like ours is.
