quite obviously a FFXI RMT reference. Anime encouraging JP gilsellers!

Necrobumb kinda, but w/e, I didnt feel like starting a new thread for it.
I just finished watching this anime, and it was pretty interesting. I downloaded it after hearing it had big reference to FFXI, expecting some sort of comedy, but I was so wrong. It was probably one of the most depressing anime I watched in last 2 years. Was totally worth the download...I think.
On topic, last thing it was doing was encouraging gilselling I think, but I think it was kinda obvious in the next 2 episodes.
NHK is a great series to but it bluntly, if you have time to d/l and watch it, I suggest doing so.
Its not a reference to FFXI, but MMO's in general.
Well... Ultimate Fantasy... with cat girls and little tarus. I'd imagine it'd be a parody of FF. I don't know UO much but I'm sure that ahd some influence as well.
As for the series, I enjoyed it alot. Ended on a semi depressing note.
Possible spoiler:
The series seemed to have ended on a platonic note. The main character never actually got involved in anything too romantic with the girl. For example, they were going to kiss but got interrupted and from that point on, nothing ever happened.
Also, the girl totally slashed her wrists in the tub.
I've got pictures up over on my xanga on this episode, for the people who don't want to watch it: http://www.xanga.com/Zhila/551108071/item.html
I was following the episodes as they came out, and it was a pretty good series. Started out really funny, and then turned serious like most of these types of animes though.
The cliffhanger on the 2nd to last episode sucked when I had to wait a week for the next episode, even though I knew what was going to happen (not as bad as the cliffhangers in Higurashi though >_>).
It actually is very much supposed to be FFXI, this is especially apparent in the anime. They have galka, taru, mithra. You see obvious jobs in their AF armor, drg, rdm, ect. In the anime the box art looks very similar to the original ffxi box. The world is called Vina Teelo. He can't solo xp anymore after about level 10, and has to get a party. He's afraid to party because he might meet people that don't speak Japaneses (jp onry). seriously, need I go on.Originally Posted by Kanai
It was an obvious parody of FFXI. The Ultimate Fantasy logo even looked like FFXI and the characters in the game were a lot alike as well.
But yeah, great series and worth the watch if you don't crave blood and gore.
Looks like imma have to download NHK now, I thought it was strange and hesitated on downloading it but since it ahs catgirls I'm going to have to try itOriginally Posted by SassiAsura
I haven't watch it yet, but from what it looks like (this is probably spoilers), the cat girl turns out to be a manthra?Originally Posted by Gulkeeva

Ah so I was right...
Another spoiler (of little importance) concerning catgirls:
To unhook the main character, Misaki dresses up as a cat-girl herself in order to take his attention away from the mithra on screen. Unfortunately, this doesn't work. (shit, I woulda jumped all over her, not for the fact that she's dressing up as a catgirl but mostly because she's attempting to roleplay something completely stupid in order to get the NEET off the PC)
haha, if you thought the anime was depressing, to read the manga original
I dont think many mmorpg were as popular as FFXI in Japan. It's only natural that they use FFXI over NA/Korean mmorpg. However, it's not really important if it is FFXI or another online game. What they are saying apply to everything to every online game. They are mostly making fun of addiction to those games, and people who are hopping to make quick money using unconventional method.Originally Posted by chiyio
I'm not sure what you mean about quality, but the script of the anime was better imo. Manga is funnier, and there is a lot more fan service in it (too much to my taste kinda), but most scene didnt feel as dramatic.Originally Posted by VZX
Oh, and the anime had awesome music imo.
1/3 of the anime talk about hentai/hentai game, 2-3 episodes about FFXI. Of all people on this board, I'm surprised you havent seen it.Originally Posted by Gulkeeva

I liked Mia, the Mithra <3, I <3 her :D
Thanks for the clarification, but animation was still not that bad. It's true for a couple of early scenes maybe, but I've seen a lot worse in other series. Maybe I would have cared if there was a lot of action, but its not the case
TBH, when I watched the first episode's opening and saw GONZO, I prepared myself to be disappointed with the anime. However, the animation was fine for the most part. The episode after the pyramid schemes was where it dropped really bad, but it picked up again especially at the end.
And yeah, I can't think of a single time where an anime was made after a manga, and the anime was better. I've been looking around to find scans of NHK, but only have found the first couple chapters since it was recently licensed
After finishing the series I went on amazon and pre-ordered the viz crap. I hate downloading a series only to find the scanlators ditching it either because it's licensed or not to their taste later on down the road.
