Anyone elses connection to FFXI busted?

That's the end of my tracert, all other sites/places I tried are fine, so it's not my home connection, I'm using optus cable internet in AU. Would anyone net savvy have heared any news about asia<>australia screwing up? Or could it be simply due to the fact it's a big patch and there's a bunch of gilsellers in asia updating their PC's at once?
Anyone able to help me with the problem?

This is really annoying, I'm getting a 6 second delay for everything. Dynamis on friday, hope I can get this fixed before that.

    Do you use PeerGuardian?

I've found that recently it blocks out some SE IPs

I've seen this happen a lot when cables flap up and down. Essentially what happens is the line on the router constantly changes from up state to down state and thus packets get retransmitted over the link (TCP) introducing delay. I've also seen this happen when installing new switches (root bridge discrepancies) and cable splits. It's hard to tell what's going on without show and debug commands :/

Can't be. Every other website works np, other programs connect, no lag on those, under 200ms for them all, it's only FFXI that's ruined.

Im on Melbourne Optus Cable too, and it is really, really laggy. (5-6 seconds to change each piece in inventory, for example).

Edit: Im given to understand that optus WoW users are also experiencing horrible lag... although I dont know if the two are connected, since one is in Japan and the other is in America..

I don't know if this belongs here or not, but I didn't want to start a new topic for it.

I know last night after downloading the patch, I was bazaaring on my laptop in Lower Jeuno and talking to a friend on MSN on my other PC. After about 10 minutes of Bazaaring, my laptop's screen would go completely black and I would get a prompt up saying POL had experienced errors and closed. After it closed I restarted POL, put my mule back in the same place, sat there for another 15 minutes and the same thing happened. Gave up after that, and went to bed.

I don't have any .dat files altered or anything. Just using the game as it came in the box. No windower running. It wouldn't crash right away, just like 10-15 minutes into the game. Also, had been playing all night previous to this and not had a single crash. I dunno what's up with it.

    Stupid thing :/

I usually get these kind of errors when I'm assigned a new IP. I can stay in the game and also see chat, movement etc. but cannot interact. After a minute or so POL will kick me (because of the new IP) and I will disconnect even if I don't get R0.

So check if that is the case if you experience that again.

I had this problem too the last 5 days or so. I figured maybe it was because my husband started to play WoW and it was too much for both games on our connection. I upgraded our cable from 3Meg to 5Meg and haven't had the issue come back up since.

ffxi takes about 1k/s, and wow doesnt take much more, so I sincerely doubt that your connection speed had anything to do with it.

If it was stable enough, a 56k connection could arguable take both games at once, let alone 3meg cable.

Something similar happened to me a while back when my video card blew.

I have found an answer for Optus users, on why , but no answer to when it will be fixed.

Surprisingly I found this on WoW forums, as they're having the exact same problems as we are (AU WoW'ers getting the same lag, probably worse , than what I'm getting).

I have just been on the phone with an optus technician and it seems that on Wednesday night a Fibre cable broke off the coast of Australia which caused the high latency. They have put a temporary fix in place which has lowered latencies some, but they are working on the permanent fix asap. The fibre cable break was a major one and is affecting all isps in Australia. So just hang in there until they fix it!
Fucking stingrays breaking our internet. Man I hope this is a thing they can fix by Dynamis, It's not gonna be fun when I do a precision pull 6 seconds too late.

I've noticed my rolling r0s in whitegate have been worse since yesterday, but just attribute it to whitegate being the gateway to hell.

I think its just the sheer amount of ppl doing CS's at once.

I ran all the way from the teahouse to the nashmau ship spamming my flee macro from the JA menu and it never went off
