Looking for the best AGP midrange card.

The best for the price I can find is the nVidia 7600GS.

Can't find the 7600GT anywhere...and the ATI Radeon x1600 line isn't that great. Any advice? This will be the last AGP upgrade until I build a new computer in a few years. The card I'm running now is a ATI Radeon 9800xt. Gig of DDR400 RAM...AMD 3200+ CPU. Thanks.

I use an ATI X1600 pro 512 mb... and it works great. I got it brand new for under a hundred, on eBay.

My CPU and Ram are almost identical to what you listed too, so, I can say from experience the system works very well.

Sorry that I can't really add much other than that, I hope it helps at least a little.

I know you said you don't like the x1600 line, but at least this way you know if all else fails then its not a bad card to resort to.

I have an ATI X1900 and it's great. I was really impressed with price ($250 CND) and the performance. Example - playing Oblivion on the highest res and performance etc and no lag whatsoever.

The card itself has a lot of power. Also keep in mind it's a "discontinued" line (from what I heard at the store I got it from) and more powerful cards are coming out each day. So this card should actually be dropping in price even more (if it hasn't already in your area).

I think I may just bite the bullet and get this card.

BFG are a little more expensive but have a lifetime warrenty. Don't make any physical mods to the card [like swapping off the fan or something] and if it breaks 3 years from now, they'll send you out an equivalent card. Definatly worth it.

I've had a 6800 GT OC on my comp, and I haven't even logged out of FFXI in over a month outside of maintaince, let alone had to restart my computer or had any graphic related issues. [I play at 1600x1200 with all options turned on at a steady frame rate]
