FFVII and PSX emulators for PC

I've never played FFVII.

I'm not about to buy a PSX or the game, but can anyone suggest an emulator and such so I can download and freely play it?

Actually it's not. It was laggy, glitchy and slower loading time I heard. You will probably get better performance with psx emulator

I recently beat it again on pc by only playing during maintenences.... and it works fine.

Ultima Edition is the right one yes?

Ultima edition is the one optimized for 2000/XP right? I played through that about a year ago, load time was fine, it should come with a few other optimizing tweaks for sound and stuff also.

Alot of the 3rd party patchs for the PC version are nice, helps clean up the game a little bit more

It was a lot cooler on the PC due to higher resolution graphics, but to get the sound just right you had to use that yamaha software midi thing that doesn't work for me at all under XP.

Unless the battle music sounds exactly right, I go insane...

You could always swap files so that it plays any sound file you have on your PC. If you have a high quality FF7 battle theme, you can swap it in.

Ive never played the PSX version, I played the PC version a few years later after it came out, but a friend who played the PSX versions said he liked the PC version more. I never noticed any slow down or anything, plus you get a few minigames the US PSX version doesnt have. The only thing negitive I saw, is that the PC version censors cusing.

Censored cursing is totally worth the better graphics. PS version looks like jumbled shit so often. The sound trips up some poeple like mentioned above, but if you get that working the PC version is a lot better than the PS version.

i played the pc version after the ps version. yah it was way better on pc. i didn't have issues with loading or lag. and my favorite exp camp was in the well next to the chocobo race arena. you get to fight these black panther like mob that just sit there and wine. best exp camp in the game imo.
