    Jailer of Temperance

My ls has been having trouble lately with this mob, on previous months (we do sky one month, sea the next, etc) it didn't take us more than 45 minutes to pop this Jailer but lately it has been taking over 2-4 hours of killing the pots for it, has its spawn conditions been modified or are we just extremely unlucky all of a sudden?

on a somewhat derail, after this guy's question is answered, what's the best 'minimum' group to do this with? I know the basics from the wiki, immune to certain types of damage based on the 'weapon' it has out:

    * With rings out, only vulnerable to Slashing damage.
    * With poles out, only vulnerable to Piercing damage.
    * With nothing out, only vulnerable to Blunt damage.

So my guess for a good group of say, 12, would be:

    Party 1
*BRD (Foe Requiem VI for more DoT)
*WHM/NIN (Blunt specialist, only mentioning /NIN because I have a very well geared WHM/NIN friend)
*DRK (Scythe, or whatever they want for slashing, K.Club or Crude Sword that for when it's Blunt weak, and Bio II)
    *NIN (Tank, slash dmg)
*WAR (off handing Joyeuse is Piercing dmg, if not then hopefully Polearm is leveled)
    *DRG (Piercing)

    Party 2
    *RDM (Refresh, debuffs)
    *BRD (Refresh, and whatnot)
    *BLM (DoT)
    *WHM
    *PLD (Backup/main tank)
*MNK (obviously blunt dmg, if they have Vampiric Claws, they're slashing DMG)

Uh we know he has 5 place holders the problem is we kill them over and over and ít refuses to pop, last time we managed to spawn it we had to divide the alliance in 5 groups and kill all PHs at the same time.

    It didnt take this long.

RNG would probably be better for piercing, because they can stay out of range of nasty AoE.[/quote]

Our LS has recently been taking jailers on in Sea. Temperance was a tough fight for us, probably due to inexperience and relying on guides to try to take it down. Some people are convinced we need to kite it and DOT the thing to avoid it's nasty TP attacks. As the person kiting it, I saw that it wasn't a very good method imo. Wanted to ping people here on what strats have been successful for other LS who bring it down frequently. Keep in mind we do not have fully decked out PLD.

Edited to add: I don't know why this was moved to newbie players. I'm pretty sure Jailers in Sea isn't an activity newbies to the game would be doing. Moving this here is probably going to prevent experienced players who've got Temperance down pat from seeing this thread and giving good suggestions. -.-

    blu own JoT

I use Vertical Cleave and Fren rip for slashing, and cannonball and hyst barrage for blunt. there are other slashing and blunt spells but i find these to be the most useful

high dmg in amount of seconds

don't forget that nins can use daggers too if you are low on piercing dmg

I've had success face-tanking Temperance as NIN/WAR. In our last run we managed to kill him with 12 people I think.

We used PLD/WAR and NIN/WAR to co-tank Temperance to start, and it worked fine. Towards the end of the fight we had some MP issues, and the PLD died. We had the BRD switch songs from Ballad/March to Mambo/March, and then eventually went to Mambo/Mambo and I found that worked great. Plenty of time to get shadows back up between misses.

Back to the OP's question of spawn conditions:
Someone on these forums was reporting that Temperance spawns like Faith, with a moving placeholder. I want to say it was someone from BtL, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

This has not been consistent with our experience. We have always managed to get Temperance to spawn on our first trip through all 5 towers. Our experience is rather limited however (only popped it three times), so there is a chance that we have just been lucky.

    EDIT: Found the link. http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/viewt...ght=temperance

I can support this though. The last Temp we went after, we killed off three(?) of the PHs but had trouble getting to the last one or two of them, and when we killed them... We had no pop? So we went back to the start and went around again, and he popped in the very first spot we killed last time.

I reckon it's something like this: Every 30 minutes (taking this from the 30 minute duration of ??? for Ix'DRK and Faith), the "PH" marker moves around between the five pots that can be its PH, and if the pot is killed in that time, Temp will pop. If not, it depops for about a minute and then repops at a random pot (sometimes the same pot!). So if you entered the palace late into the 30 minute "window", you could concievably kill the first two pots on your list, and have the PH marker move to one of those first two pots before you got to the 3rd, 4th and 5th. I believe that's what happened to us.

Sometimes ya get lucky too, and have 3 Temps pop in a row from the same location. 8) Oh and as was mentioned earlier, BLU is wonderful for this fight. Could probably do it effectively with low numbers with 2 or 3 BLUs in the group.

Thanks for the tips. So the general consensus so far is that you are not kiting Temp, correct? I'd imagine not, since he apparently resets hate after switching between his modes, but I want to get clarification on this.

We do kite him, but idk, you can probably straight tank him fine if you want to. He's extremely fast, anyways, and Grav never seems to stick on him for terribly long.. Probably just depends on your LS preference, but either works, though I imagine straight tanking is faster and messier.

Ya that was a big problem for us. That and hate just doesn't seem to stick on him. As soon as someone did so much as Cure 1, Temp decided it would dine on the caster. Was pretty a pretty frustrating fight to say the least. Were you having all melee /NIN and whoever got hate would take off running until hate went on someone else, rinse & repeat until dead?

  16. #16

Yea, u gotta kill all 5 pots within a 30 minute interval to have 100% chance to pop it in theory, well technically, probably less because most likely you won't be starting right at the same time the PH has shifted. If you don't split up to knock all the PHs down around the same time, its relatively luck in getting it to pop.

A good RDM/NIN could probably hold it til the rest of the group got to it. If you have a full alliance just split up, have one group go west from the lobby, the other go east.

Mostly, yeah. We did it with PLD/NINs (generally), and most of the melee we ever use sub NIN anyways.. MNK/NINs, THF/NINs, WAR/NINs, BLU/NINs, and RNG/NINs primarily. The BLUs do a real number on it most of the time, until it goes into piercing damage and the RNGs just destroy it, and it usually works pretty well. Ideally, when people got hate they would run, and the PLDs would try to wrench it back, but sometimes half the alliance isn't paying attention and stands there whacking on it while it east their shadows. >_> Especially with Faith.. And then it just goes into Optic Induration shotgun mode and keeps blasting us until people die and it runs off. It's annoying, but we manage usually.

  18. #18

One thing I've noticed is optic indurations seem to do almost no damage if you arent whacking away while he's 'charging' them.

  19. #19

We do JoT with PLD and NIN and kite. RNG for Piercing, BLU MNK and DRG for blunt, and NIN for slashing. I've never really seen too much trouble with Kiting him on PLD even before I got W.Legs; but if he started to resist grav we'd just SB him and cool off a bit.

Optic Induration would be the cause of the hate reset.

You can kite him, but you need to hug the corners well. This however just slows things down, so I'd only recommend doing it if he is in a mode you cant damage very efficiently.
