Add to that the return to old-school harsh death penalties like exp debt and corpse runs, the slow, grindy nature of advancement in not just one but three different spheres of the game, and very little support for solo play, and it all adds up to a recipe for disaster. I’m sure there is a hardcore, dedicated group of potential players for such a game, and maybe Vanguard will capture all of them. But at best that number is only going to be a few hundred thousand subscribers. Vanguard is no WoW killer, and it simply will not appeal to the broader gaming audience the way many of the newer products in the fantasy MMORPG segment will.
