    CES 2007

Anyone else following this? Heres a good summary of what has been announced so far: http://www.tomshardware.com/events/ces_ ... index.html
Its basiclly E3, but for non-game (for the most part) technology.

    Some notable stuff so far:
Dual format HDDVD/Bluray players as well Dual format disks that can be played in either player.

    2160p resolution HDTVs

A 1TB HD with 10k speed and not getting super hot. But PC users dont care.

Seagate has made a 'super' encryption for its HDs; there is only one key, and if you lose it, youre SOL, not even seagate can help you.

    More Windows Home Server details.

Gates offically states he'll be steping down in '08.

    Intel announces a 3.2 Core 2 Quad.

Wii and 360 booths are packed, while PS3 booths are a ghost town.

Programable LED license plates and TV rear veiw mirrors.

Intel's 8core processor beats AMDs best by 61%

Some pretty nifty stuff I think, a lot of other things coming up, and a lot of the bigger/kick ass things will be revealed at the end of the show, which I think is tomorrow.

Personally I think this is the most important information in this thread.

There is nothing new about this, unless by TV you mean satellite/cable where you are actually watching tv in real time. If you mean a rear view mirror that is a moniter that you can watch movies/whatever in, and also doubles as a rear view mirror, that is nothing new.

The Consumer Electronics Show used to be a major event in the video games calendar – in the past five or so years it has been dwarfed by the likes of E3 (itself undergoing a major downsizing) and the Tokyo Game Show. This year's CES did nothing to change its reputation as one of gamings’ least newsworthy shows, but did unveil a few morsels of information.

The heavily rumoured unveiling of the next model of Xbox 360 (featuring 120GB hard drive, HDMI, smaller, quieter processor) didn’t materialise, though having seen Microsoft’s plans for 360 television broadcasts, an increased capacity hard drive is now absolutely essential. IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is the latest addition to the 360’s ever-growing multi media capabilities. It will allow 360 owners to watch, downloads and supposedly save TV content on the 360, as well as the ability download new episodes of your favourite TV series while playing games. So far it’s unclear whether this service will make it outside of America, much like the movie rental/download service that our transatlantic friends have been enjoying since last November.

Microsoft were also keen to show off the potential of their Live Anywhere service – I say potential because it’s still incomplete, lacking any massive draw to kick-start the service. The game they chose to demonstrate the service was the rather uninspiring card game Uno, allowing 360 and PC owners to compete over Xbox Live. Although billed as a demonstration of the service, it’s a long way short of Halo 2 versus matches that gamers have been dreaming of since the service was announced. Allegedly, Halo 2 will feature some level of Live Anywhere support, but this will not allow for actual versus gameplay. Of greater interest to PC gamers is the porting of the chronically addictive Live Arcade shoot ‘em up Geometry Wars Retro Evolved.

Sony were present at CES, but didn’t drop any huge announcements. They did state that the PS3 had shipped (not sold) one million units in America since launch, though tales of units stacked high and readily available in American stores suggests that the public aren’t so keen to splash out, following the initial furore. Sony claim they are still on target to reach six million units sold world-wide by this March, meaning they must have faith their own ability to deliver a healthy supply of machines for the European launch in three months' time.

Microsoft will have to come up with some sort of plan for the 360 owners, or they will get bitchslapped all over the place because they can't just release a new model with upgraded shit and expect the current 360 owners to just toss away a 400 dollar console and replace it with a new one.

One of my best friends from HS/college/now works as a game tester and GM for Funcom, and he's attending CES. He sent me a pic of him crashing Windows Vista. Hehehe.
