    FFVII PC Version on Laptop

This goddamn game is driving me crazy...mainly because it won't run properly.

I ran a forum search and couldn't find a similar thread, and I've searched up and down google...here's my problem:

I'm running FFVII PC Version on Laptop.

-> First, when I loaded the program my keys wouldn't work at all, a common problem with laptop keys which I downloaded a patch for.

-> Now, when it loaded, my keys worked fine, so I click "New Game" (other option is Continue)

-> Once I click New Game, the screen just goes black...nothing. I looked this up around forums/torrent comments, and the most constructive piece of advice was that I should download K-Lite Codec Pack.

-> I downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack / installed them all, and when I ran the FFVI program again, the screen goes black after New Game. But then all of a sudden, a box pops up "Insert Disc 1..." What the hell?!

If anyone can help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've flipped through pages of google/forum help and haven't found what I'm doing wrong.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?

FFVI also known as FFIII on the SNES, was never made for PC. Why the hel would you need K-litewhatthefuckever to play it anyway?

    Done, and done.

I've ran the configuration program, but I really can't change/touch anything...Under "graphics," I can't change either the display, or the renderer (I recall reading something about changing the renderer from 'Software Renderer' to 'DirectX Renderer' or something of the sort). All I can touch is the display resolution, from Quarter Screen 640x480 to Full Screen 640x480.

Just a simple second question -- is there a way to run the program at true quarter screen? Right now, although my menu says that I have it on QS, it comes up full screen. I'd really prefer it if I could rezise the window or something.

Google a torrent for FFVII Ultima Edition. It's patched to run on Windows XP with the chocobo hack also editted in.

Ive heard running a PSX emulator and the ISOs of PS1 ff7 run considerably better than even the ultima edition

I had it and it used to crash randomly, not worth it when PSXEMU version ran perfect.

Oh yeah for sure. The emulator lets you watch all the CG uncompressed and also adjust the graphics to be rendered smoother.

    Correct answer.

FF7 (and 8 if I remember) doesnt run natively in XP, you have to have them patched.

If you find a working patch (try megagames.com), you wont have to d/l the game.
