All that shit is fine and dandy for everyone else. Useless for me. Unless my video games magically look like realy life, I'm perfectly fine with the non HD shit (as long as it's not smudgy or blurry)
Dude, TV stations barely broadcast 720p (those that do HD), and there isn't a single game that plays in 1080p.
There is no point to get a better TV than a 1080p, at least for 2, 3, even 5 years... sure, the technology is out there, but it can't be used and those TVs will just tune it down to 1080p or whatever the hell it is the the current TV station/console plays.
Get 2160p for the PS4.
Instead of building walls in the livingroom, just make one a giant fucking HDTV and be goddamn done with it. This shit is just gonna get bigger and bigger.
These up and coming resolutions make me lol, 'next gen hardware' is pretty hard pressed to render complex scenes @ 720p, you can push a console like xbox360 to do 1080p but it just kills the frame rate.
There's no way you'll see anything above 1080p getting used in a console game for the next couple years.

CES is a way for companies to show off the high-end, ridiculous stuff they've developed, but don't necessarily intend on releasing due to costs, usefulness, etc. Give it 5 years and you might just see these come to market with some minor intensity, and another 2 years after that for game consoles, cable/satellite, and digital media to catch up. But hey, Westinghouse got the publicity for "coolest new tv at CES" which sure wouldn't hurt their sales.
Those are made for industrial use etc... not for home use. That artical does a crap job... need to dig up one I found previously.Originally Posted by Who Dat?

Don't buy one yet (obviously, doubt you can find one). I've spent alot of money in the past being on the cutting edge of tech, and the first 6 months of any product line is usually filled with shit, not to mention the cost.
Wait until 75% of the stock at your local Best Buy is 2160p, then look at getting one.
don't worry about anything over 1080p
the industry is having a hard enough time switching over to 720p/1080i/1080p
Unless you have a TV over 60" and sit very close to it, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p much less those higher resolutions
and as a side bonus most of the cable/satelite channels are currently broadcasting SD (480i) with maybe 10-20 channels in varying qualities of HD (720p/1080i) and that you will only be able to get 1080p on HD-DVD and Blueray. I'd say if you get a 1080p display you'll be set for the next 5 years easily.
It might take that long just to get a decent amount of cable content in HD (720p/1080i), lord only knows if the broadcasters will even move to 1080p ...
There are some PS3 games that output to 1080P. Only reason I look for 1080P now is basically if I want to double as a huge pc monitor. I can barely tell the difference on 720p 1080p honestly unless I stare near point blank.Originally Posted by Exoduso

Does NBA 07 actually output at 1080p though? or do they just claim it does to make themselves look better... i'm sure all the other PS3 releases right now play at 720p/1080i, correct me if i'm wrong...
But either way, sure most of them will do that... but so will the 360 if they release an HDMI output, which quite frankly I won't care for because i'm not forking over 400 bucks for a new 360, just so I can pretend I have a 1080p output (quite honestly, my 360 is set at 1080p just because I can, but I don't notice a difference in the games whatsoever if I tune it down to 720p.
I doubt this current gen will be able to support anything higher, and hell... who said the next one would?
It would be a long time before 2160p will be the common 1st choice, and it'll be even longer before companies/tv stations/consoles will be able to output anything over 1080p (hell, half the HD stations don't even output at 1080i right now... they're still stuck with 720p.)
I dont play sports games but i'll venture a guess that like most developers, they would only output @ 1080 for cinematic/user interface screens and drop back to 720 for gameplay.Originally Posted by Exoduso
And that is why it doesn't matter.
Hell, the PS3 doesn't even come with HDMI cables..
