GD video streams...

For some reason, whenever I try to load a video stream, I only hear the audio but the screen is pitch black...

I thought that maybe it was because of the new Explorer 7 that windows made me install, so I got rid of it...but the problem still persists.

I tried downloading activex from MS's website, but it still didn't solve the issue.

If anyone could help me it would be appreciated, i'm running out of ideas really.

It's no specific link, no video streams work (except for youtube for some reason...)

Youtube isnt really a good example because it doesnt work off of anything installed on your computer, its all server side.

A link that say, opens up WMP10 and tries to play a video is reliant on your software.

More details needed.

Okay fine, take for example any video on cnn.com ... these would play the audio, but show no video.

What version of WMP are you using?

CNN movies should work, but my work computer I have WMP11, and sometimes it doesnt work.

If youre using WMP10, check out K-Lite Mega Codec Pack http://www.codecguide.com/

WMP11 is the devil atm.

9? Thats probably your problem, that hasnt been supported in awhile, you should switch up to 10, but not 11.

You shouldnt need to d/l it in the first place.

If your browser needs it, it will d/l it automaticlly.

Yeah okay but installing WMP10 didn't do the trick...

Dunno man, try that codec link, if that doesnt work, do some virus scans, clear your internet cache and cookies and the like. There really should be nothing that would be holding it up, id delete the downloaded program files as well.

Can you play videos fine offline?

Oh also, check your internet security settings, and the advanced settings. Make sure 'play web videos' is selected and the like.

Yeah they work fine offline... (even though the websites stream it, is it still using WMP to play?)

I only have .wav files to test though offline, and the files work fine when played.

Places like youtube and google vid use an internal webplayer. CNN uses a modified WMP, so its still reliant on what you have installed codec wise.

.wav is sound only though, so its not test material. But if you are able to play .avi and .wmv or something else that has video, its either a setting, or a bad program installed, possibly a codec as well.
